THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I remember someone on NAXJA doing the same type of uhh... 2 link? setup before, IIRC it failed on the highway.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

The front suspension travel is awesome and is restricted by the front fenders and stock coil springs, with a set of aftermarket fenders and some long travel coilover shocks this front end could have well over 36" of travel at the tire.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I don't know what's going on man. I thought your XJ was cool like 4 years, then thought it was gay on wheels. Out of nowhere you're the only person trying to build a reliable driver jeep. You drive your jeep to the trail, beat the shit out of it and drive home? When did this start happening? I'm bored of seeing one ton builds. I don't give a shit where they can go better than a jeep on 33-35s. Jeeps aren't cool if they sit in your garage until you TOW them to the trail.

Alright now I'm really disturbed. And I'm sure you're yanking my chain.

But I do agree with everything you said.

That wishbone suspension was on 87xjco's Xota. It did fail on the highway, I don't remember the reason, I think it was poor material choice, but I don't remember.

Its a 3 link essentially, not really too ghetto. Done right, it would be a sweet offroad suspension.

Edit: I had the thread open so.
Terry was on his way with us to Moab when his newly fabricated wishbone suspension came apart. When the upper wishbone broke it cause the Xota to shoot towards the guard rail where it hit pretty violantly forcing the front axle to push and roll under the truck till it basically was 90 degrees from where it was originally mounted. Terry was lucky that he was not hurt, the vehicle did not roll, and that he did not hurt or kill anyone else. It is a great learning experience for allot of people. Fabricating your suspension, especially a new design, has risks.

So what happened to the wishbone? The uppers just let go? Fatigue? Insufficient material? Design flaw?
Hard to say? Probably the last two. Don't know for sure that the wishbone is what caused the accident. Just suddenly had death wobble at about 55mph and a second or to later the vehicle was going hard to the left and into the rail. I was braking hard so I probably hit it at about 45mph. The wishbone had about a hundred miles of driving on it with no problems up until then.

After the accident, everything was so mangled that attached to the front housing, that it's hard to tell what broke loose first.

But it was a pretty radical design and not something I'll attempt again on a street driven rig. Or on anything for that matter!

A couple of socal guys have run that same design with reasonable luck; one even managed to do it with mechanical steering.

I don't know that I'd ever have the balls to try it myself. It worked well on the trail, but both said they got good sway on the highway.

i'm doing that.

tow rigs are lamezor

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I had a rig like that and it was great and also forced you to stay on top of things because you had to in order to drive it. As soon as I got a trailer my XJ went to shit.

On the other hand there are plenty of trails I know of that I wouldn't have even attempted with 35s.

Had one of those till Friday but I think you are partially joking

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

you can get complete tj fenders for $79 on rockauto.

this means i should buy some and use them as a base for some highlined tube fenders

why dont you look at btf DIY tube fender kit. $160 + shipping and theyre really nice. i had a set on my YJ

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Im ready Im ready Im ready!!!

The dude should be here in a few minutes to pick us up to go get our sleds. Its still dark out here, I think were gunna go find somewhere for breakfast first then head to the park.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

snowmobiles?
nope sleds, and they don't need any sled dogs because they have Ross

100% bullshit contained in this post

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

oh hell.

Just what I need, more snow... strongly considering throwing in the towel on the roof till spring. Fortunately it's waterproof enough now that I can stop worrying so much and start gutting the interior while I wait.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

supposed to start here this afternoon, cant wait!

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I can.

3rd gear, 2800 rpms got me up my driveway last night.

Rooster tails are fun :D
yep... second gear and 5000 rpm got the dirty POS up the road from the UJ christmas party a few weeks ago :D

Wish I'd been able to see it, apparently I was throwing snow pretty far.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

So we're expecting 6-10"+ this afternoon and tonight.

What we weren't expecting was the 2-3" that's already fallen this morning. That came out of nowhere, caught all the plows & road crews off guard, and boxed up my morning commute pretty well.

edit: if we get shat upon tonight, I'm gonna take the XJ out blasting around again. Way too much fun.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm strongly considering going into hibernation from now until, say, March.

Can't get a god damn thing done. Nowhere to work on the MJ, the 96 needs work and I don't have the parts, can't get to the house easily without the 96 and even if I could I can't do much, the 98 is trapped till snow melts...

:smsoap:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Super huge tangent from the current topic, but for anyone interested in any sort of high end audio and what driver to pick, look here http://www.zaphaudio.com/ Tons of good info and many popular brand drivers are compared with measured results there.
