Yeah, if it weren't for him, that thread would be rockin'.

Someone did make a good point that maybe it wasn't the flat part that was exposed...if the blade contacted the outer edge of the sphere, I could see how it'd maybe flex around it. Still a one in a million shot though. If a sawmill blade tried to go straight through that thing it'd probably ruin some millworker's day.

I love weird stuff like this, where you come across something uncommon with a strange chain of events behind it. Years ago I made a few unsuccessful attempts at keeping a 'blog' going, and here's one entry that I liked:

Yeah, they got pretty lucky hitting one side :roflmao: that would wear right through a sawblade, if not snap it outright.

I'll have to check it out in a bit. My blog died a rather pitiful death sometime in 2008 and once in a while I attempt to revive it.

I think I might stop by homo depo on my way home today and pick up some sheetmetal for the rear wheel wells, cover over the upper link mount on the passenger floor, and to fix the rusted holes in the floor.

Should I go with 16ga?

My list is pretty expansive and it's just the list of things that I need to buy. I don't feel overwhelmed with it though because I just ignore it due to lack of $$$. That'll change soon though. I'll buy buyin' stuff left and right once I get a new POS.

Why would someone think finding that breaker is anticlimatic? I do the same thing, which is why I read through that other thread about the ball they can't figure out.

I like mysteries like that.

I always use 16ga when doing sheetmetal work. It is a dream to weld on 1low or 1high with my silly little welder, haven't blown through once and the beads are always beautiful. I only have a problem with it when welding to partially rusted portions of my jeep (i.e. everywhere.)

agreed. Between the mystery and the urban exploration I am a fan. Used to do a lot of urban exploration, now I just plain don't have time. I love wandering around and exploring old abandoned rail lines, too.

Keep in mind that we're an extremely small cross section of the general population. Most of us ended up here because we have common interests, and a common mentality when it comes to mechanical things and problem solving.

Some of the places we went were just friggin weird. Again, I'll hafta dig up some pics.

My friend and I once had 3 whole police departments and 2 K9 units looking for us one night after exploring a not-so-abandoned railway. Turns out the train driver though he hit & killed us, and after a K9 search of the tracks failed to turn up any blood or bodies, they had put out an APB on my car after getting the license plate number from a security camera in the parking lot adjacent to the tracks. They finally found my car parked in my buddy's driveway...that took a lot of explaining.

In reality the timing couldn't have been more perfect. After the train had passed, we hopped off the tracks to go to a 7-11, and we ran into some friends and ended up staying there for a while. The whole time we were at the 7-11, police and dogs had been walking the tracks looking for us. We left the 7-11 and returned to my car via the tracks after the search had been disbanded, so we really had no idea that any of it had taken place.

Colin, Home Depot is going to rape you on sheet metal pricing. You could easily buy a 4x8 sheet for what they'll charge you for a few small pieces.

One thing I'd recommend, because I saw the option of trailer fenders mentioned as well - flat spots rule. You can mount stuff to flat areas. You can sit/stand on them. Curved things, not so much. I don't know what your plans are but I'd recommend doing a trapezoid or box for the wheelwell instead of something curved.

16-gauge is probably fine, maybe a little on the thin side (less than 1/16" thick). I'd maybe go a gauge or two thicker if the cost isn't prohibitive.

Did they use a 100x digital zoom then render the pixels and pull the plate number off a reflection of a lipstick container laying in a puddle?
