That sucks, my feet are always dry, comfortable, and warm in my Timberlands and they were like $60 and still going strong.

If it's REALLY cold out, I just double up on socks.

I don't mind making a decent investment in outdoor gear if I know I'm going to get a lot of use from it, and it does what it says it will do. I went with my friend to go recover a stuck car from the snow the other night, and the temperature was in the low teens with a ton of wind. My feet were by far the happiest they've ever been in a weather situation like that.

I'm due for a new set of Carhartt coveralls, but same thing, it's an investment. I've gotten 6 or 7 years from my current set but that's pushing it...the outer layer on the left knee ripped two winters ago, so if I forget about it and kneel on something wet, I get soaked instantly. They're between $100-$150 a set as well.

My 'daily driver' shoes are these:

which I've had for over a year now. They still look almost new and I wear them everywhere...including out at KOH and a day hike to the bottom of the grand canyon and back. Once these wear out I'll probably get the same set again.

My ski gloves have been perfect for the last 9 years, but I just noticed a slice in the outer layer of one of the right ringers - bummer, there goes the waterproofness. I'll probably keep them around for my trip out to Tahoe in a few weeks and see if it's a big deal or not.

My DD shoes are Adidas Sambas. Size 13, replace every year and a half for $40-45. TYVM.

edit: These are my Keens. I went for a 8 mile hike a day and a half after I got them without a single hint of discomfort. I'm actually wearing them right now :)

I think the Salomon ones I have (pictured) were about $60.

Not bad for something that's likely going to last me at least 2 years and doubles as my hiking footwear. I don't have or need anything in between those and my cold-weather boots.

I wear $30 Dickies steel toes and replace them twice a year.And when I'm not wearing boots, what ever comfortable skate shoe that is on clearance at the time. Usually kick the crap out of them for a year until I can see toes.

I still can never bring myself to spend a lot on shoes.
I've got two pairs of daily shoes (one garage, one work), one pair of hikers, and a pair of boots. I'd like some new hikers' (something like Andy posted) but I'll wait till I absolutely need them before I spend that much.

The soles probably would last longer, but the soles on my current pair are wearing like iron. I doubt much of anything could stand up to this, picture scrubbing the side of the heel (the leather part right above the sole) against gravel or an abrasive cutting wheel for 4 hours a day with 100lbs on the other side of it. If I wear through these before I finish the roof, I'm getting out my 18ga copper plate stock, ball peen hammer, and copper rivets and solving this problem myself.

I did the same thing to another pair in winter '06/'07 when I was doing an awful lot of urban exploration that required crawling, trench/battlefield style, under large pipes and wiring while lying flat on a rough cement floor. Only took about a month of that for holes to appear. Formed some heavy copper plates that covered the holes, riveted them down with RTV in between to keep water out, and kept on wearing them.

I've got myself a pair of Redwing Logging boots. They are $175, but I paid nothing for them. :D

Awesome boot, really comfortable, water proof, steel toe. I walked around through the slushy streets of Boston last night with them, every cross walk intersection was slush and water and I just happily stepped right through. They have a salt line up past the ankle, and not once did I feel a drop inside.

I'm not sure when I'd ever wear a tennis/running/crosstraining kinda shoe...so I don't mind spending a little more but combining all those into one.

And yes, I wear the Salomons running/moutain biking*/playing frisbee/football etc too.

This is one of the most bland conversation topics to happen in a while.

*I use old-school toe clips, not the clipless pedals - I never liked those. Plus it saves me from buying yet another pair of shoes, and I ride my moutain bike all over the place anyway so they're much nicer to use with normal shoes.

I used to tear thru a pair of Tim Pros in a couple of months no problem. I did this for the last like 8 pairs of boots. last time I tried something new and got chippewas, no signs of problems for the like 8 months I've had them now. Only complaint is the soles are wearing smooth, I might get the resoled or use a tire groover on them.

i had timberland pro's for the past 3 years or so. they are pretty beat now and no longer waterproof (didnt really take care of them)

got some "machine" boots from bobs. they were like $60 and really light and comfortable. not sure how long they will last, but my feet are happy in them

Thats all well and good, but if you set foot in the Yankee Candle store, your Jeep is not the only thing with identity issues!!!:D

Please post pictures of said sideways sliding if you have any hope of retaining your Man-Card!!

Hey Bill, no need to clutter up that other exo thread with it, but did you change the direction of the bars above the front seats? Looks like they converge at the windshield in one pic and at the B-pillar in another. Which one was the final and why the change?

Which pictures are you talking about? I don't recall ever having them converge at the windshield so I don't think there was a change.
