THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

haha i like how in the new 4link thread in adv fab they say (Bill and Jes) that you can fit 2.5" coilovers on the outside of the rear frame rails. they just dont know how to package shit cause i sure can
I'm sure you missed the 't there but I said you can't. You really think you can fit a coilover between the tire and the unirail and not have issues?
Whether you have glass insurance or not, you have one free windshield replacement per year under massachusetts law.
Exactly. If it is registered in MA as a personal vehicle it has to be covered with a zero dollar deductible as long as it has comprehensive on it.
Thats along the lines of what I thought. I dunno, once my mom gets home Ill get the policy and see what the deal is. Also, how do I "claim" this "free" windshield if its not covered?
It's easy. Call the insurance company, tell them you are getting a new windshield. Nothing else needs to be done. Call the glass company, have them put in a windshield. Glass company takes care of everything. All you have to do is sign one piece of paper.

I think I would rather have this over my green Jeep right now. (provided amber front turns and marker lights are put back in)

That is exactly how Angel's keep would sit with a 2" BB. Heck, it even has the same tires, marker lights, everything. Give me a couple hours so I can install a BB, find/swap the marker lights, and find that roof rack then come on up.
In approximately half an hour, I will eat my chinese food leftovers. I am excited
Nice!

I am thinking that I can fit a 2.5" air shock no problem, and believe I can fit a 2.5" coilover too.... am I missing something? I am going to need to remove more wheel well... thats no biggie, but I use almost my entire 14" of travel now with the 7100's mounted close to verticle, and they don't hit anything. I expect to need a 16" travel shock once I link the rear.

Your shocks are outboarded? I didn't notice that.

A 2.5" coilover will also have a spring wrapped around it (duh) so it will be closer to the ~4" diameter. I really doubt you're going to package that between the rail and tire and still have it flex and not bind up up either of them. You might get away with an airshock if you are getting away with a traditional shock now.

IDK, the wife isn't home so I can't go measure a stock wheel well on a XJ, maybe I'm missing something?

Currently my shocks mount to the spring plate on top of the leaf springs. once I link the rear, I am just going to mount the shock in to my existing upper mount (on my cage), see where it hits the axle, maybe push the axle mount a little further out towards the wheel (which means more wheel well cutting), and weld a shock mount on in that spot on the axle tube. I am leaning more towards air shocks, only because they are more linear than coilovers, and cheaper.

I'm pretty sure that is the beautiful 99 orvis from that recent thread in the pics section. Good luck finding an orvis over here (they were all UK models, and all RHD... think superdeduper Limited model) :spin1:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i gots like 12" of room between the frame and tire so i fail to see the issue Bill

Oh, right now I remember your shocks. I don't see how you'd have any issue with that. They aren't outside of the rails like the guy in that other thread wanted to do.

At ride height. Flex that then tell me. :)
Chris's old setup seemed to work, maybe he remembers how much clearance there was? Wheel backspacing will play a roll, but I just don't think there is enough for a coilover.

Maybe I'm totally wrong I cut all that crap out of mine, but you can sure bet once that stock Jeep rolls up the driveway I'll be out there with my tape measure. ;)

She has leather and the same taillights. Besides the fender light and ZJ hood vents, and RHD you don't want over here anyway what is there?

My shocks are definitely outside of the frame rails... My shocks run through the space between the outside edge of the frame rails and the wheel well. My wheel well is not cut at all.

Ok, so I'm wrong then.

I still don't think you'll fit a coilover in there and even if you had an airshock when you start getting more flex I think you may have issues. I can't say anything beyond that without really looking at it, I'm just guessing here.

You got me. :)

looks to be 6" on a stock setup bill, i win again

Here is a shot of where my shocks fall right now...
RearBumper044.jpg

I use almost every bit of 14" of travel on those shocks, and have no interference. There is an additional 1/2" to 3/4" of clearance around the body of that shock, and it has not contacted the body anywhere so far.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Fine Rob, you got me.

Jjust went down an measured what is left of my stock wheel well. I have 3.5" between the rail and the beginning of the wheel weel pinch seem. Given that the rail is heavily built up in this area becuase that is were the replacement starts I have about 0.5" less. Judging by Rob's picture above and the angle it is shot at I'd say ~4" is a fair measure, but we'll go further and say 4.5".

Now 4.5" if it is setup anything like mine won't work. I have 1.5" between my tire and coilover at ride height and 2" between the frame rail and the coilover. As you guys both know my tires just kiss my coilovers at full travel.

So taking the 4.5" measure, subtract the 2.0" airshock gets you 2.5". Divided by 2, gives 1.25" on each side, that wouldn't work. If it was setup like mine you'd need at least 6" there to make it work. So based on Robs measure you could make it work if you cut into the wheel well. Which Andy said he'd do so I just proved it could work and myself wrong for airshocks. I really was thinking there was less space than that to work with, I guess my 3.5" proves why I thought so.

Well done.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

way to much tech i now got a headache, i just put stuff wherever and hope it works

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

This is what I thought you guys were trying to work with:

I guess I need to stop thinking my Jeep somehow applies to a stock Jeep setup. :dunce:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

No, you just need to stop thinking, period. :D
:wstupid: Hey, my new weekly card night was postponed and changed so I needed something to do tonight. Why not confuse everyone?
