THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

What's the deal? This thread moves faster than any of ours...I know some guys have gotten a lot of snow out there, are people without power and stuff?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I wish my boss would stop fawking up and breaking stuff. Then maybe he could finish this project and we could get out of here. Guess I will go tell him what to do so he doesn't break stuff anymore :nono:

I got my alternator from a Durango with a 4.7L (I think). With a little massaging of the bracket it fits (the case is larger then the XJ's but the mounting holes are the same). It's a 170 amp unit. If you want I can give you the exact year that it fits when I get home.

Any chance to check out the exact year/etc for that alt? I might stop by NAPA and/or advanced on the way home if you got to check that  Either way, I will end up spending whatever light I have at the end of today tearing the alt out again. And was the connectors on the back of the durango alt the same as the XJ connectors? or did you have to splice the right ends onto the XJ cables?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

And would a parts store take an XJ Alternator as a core for a higher power durango alt?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

It's for a 2003 Dodge Durango with a 5.9L. The parts monkeys behind the counter won't know the difference.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I have zero motivation to go out in the garage and do work.

Ross, I wish I just bought an oem replacement cat, you asked if it was too short, but no it was too long when all said and done.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I've got my motivation back, but I'm stuck at work... Which one are you working on, Mark?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'd like some motivation, but its too freaking cold out.

My mom has been working at her company for.. idk 10 years now, and just decided to tell me yesterday that they have a heated garage and i can use it. so hopefully i can make it up there saturday and put the motor mounts in and the new winch :D

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

what happened to it? lets hope mine turns out better than that

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

only thing bad that happened to mine was the little pin that holds the engage handle in broke and it fell out. I fixed it and never had a problem since.

same thing with mine except i took all the planetary gears out and can't get the cover to fit back on. I'll give you $100 to put mine back together. I got all the new parts from the factory.

Awesome thanks. So its the 5.9 not the 4.7? And was the pulley the same as the XJ one or did you have to swap the XJ pulley onto the Durango alt?

And wtf, the alt from the 5.9 just has to be $25 more expensive than the alt from the 4.7... even though both the 4.7 and 5.9 alts are 160A :smsoap:

Edit: HOLY F*** I just looked up the '96 dakota alt that I have now and it's $240 plus core so I guess I shouldn't complain about $146 plus core

i didnt have to take the planetarys out on mine?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

mine free spooled like shit and i read that if you get rid of the factory grease and replace it with better stuff it will free spool better. so i took it all apart and cleaned it.
