Travis- thought you went black at first glance, lol

lol nope! not I! By the way, I have the coils for you from Anthony. i dunno if you've paid him for them yet or what but once that stuff's figured out we can meet up so i can get em to you

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

[nerd talk] anyone else notice the price of silver is ~$29/oz?!? I have a bunch of old stuff I should sell that I bought a few years ago for half that...I didn't realize it jumped that high. [/$$]
actually, yes, I did. I've been talking to a guy at work about that.

We think it's because the dollar is losing value, but precious metals are always worth what they're worth. The govt keeps printing dolla dolla billz which makes each individual one worth less than it was before.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

annnd 28 hrs later, im done work for the "day" back to it at 8:00 tomorrow to pick up where people refused to leave their condo and move their cars...not a smart idea when i am plowing. they now have excessive shoveling to do before they leave their spot :)

except the pretty girls...ill help them
I tend to push snow a long distance to their cars if its during the day.
The first big storm of last winter, I found out that one of the truck drivers at the cryo plant we plow had unplugged the loader to plug in his duramax. Once I got the loader running, he learned the hard way not to mess with the plowing equipment, especially when there is a 3yd loader on site. That was one cold duramax. The best part was he bitched to his supervisor about it, and got written up for unplugging the loader, which was one too many write ups, getting him fired.
eff it. i think ill just buy a new durango box and new wj pump. that'll fix it
I have a brand new WJ pump at home without a reservoir on it you can have cheap.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Apparently back home, we got 24"+ that no one was prepared for. There are state highways left unplowed and stuck/busted cars everywhere.

God damn if I didn't pick the best snowstorm ever to head south for.

I gave my buddy the spare set of keys for my Dodge a while ago, I called him up and told him if he needs it to just go and get it. It's got brand new tires and 4wd that works magic in the snow, thanks to the weight of the CTD over the front axle. He blew a front 44 shaft in his plow/recovery truck earlier today, so I guess that accelerates the plans of the front 60 swap in that thing...

I would totally be driving my XJ around in this. Just to give you guys an idea, this guy is a "neighbor" to my buddy's shop - as in, he lives about 3/4 a mile down the road, the short way. The short way being down the "navy road" which is permit only for military access. He drove this from his house, to the navy road, to the shop, and pulled people out all day long.

Yeah, those are Rockwells and tractor tires.

XXXXer i wish I was home right now.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I need that thing to pull me out. I can't get out of my driveway. There's about 2 feet still in the road with no plows in site. My dad has a side job as a plow crew supervisor for DOT and by 630pm on sunday 3 of the 4 plows he supervises were stuck and as of this morning 15 of the 17 plows where he works out of were all stuck.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i dont get it. every year it gets cold and snows. it aint some new thing LOL

anyway, last night's recap... first dream i was in the 80s in a movie with carrie fisher (leia from start wars for those of you out of the know...)and she drove a rotary powered relient K convertible complete with woodgrain. i remember the tach redlined at 8700RPM. we made out.

the next dream was weird but it involved rabbits and a miata and the grand canyon. i dont remember anything else.

then i woke up with a remix of red hot chili peppers and prodigy stuck in my head.

I don't get it either. I could see if this was Georgia or Arkansas that got 20"+, but come on New Jersey? They should be ready for that. Even all the people flipping out in Mass should have been prepared. This is no different than the ice storm a couple years ago and nobody had generators.

That is a pretty awesome truck.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Also, Jon, I'm one of those lazy asshats that won't move my car out of my space  I move enough snow to get the driver door open, hop in, and drive out of the snowpile I get left in... I'll be damned if I'm going to get out of bed at 4am when my landlord tells me I have to be moved by, I have 4wd for that shit.
oh the people with awd were kinda ok, 4wd can definitley get out

buuut the d bag with the brand new shiny leased BMW hes gonna have some issues. as is the pretty girl with the crossfire...i hope im back intime to help her haha. and i judt dont get it. I leave massive piles in front of pakring spaces that i want to keep car free so i can get snow to the dump spots. then i go back and some moron is parked in front of them giving me the evil eye. i politley tell him to move his car or he wont get it out till june at the earliest :)

i have also discovered that plow drivers can get away with destroying anything haha. i took out a stanpipe cover and my boss took out a whole manhole cover with the loader.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yep, unless its a car... can't really get away with that.

I have seen a lot of munched up asphalt curbs. Speaking of which why the hell do people up here even bother with asphalt curbs instead of granite or cement, they get wrecked or plowed away very quickly.

Very soon-ish, probably the end of the week!
Ill let you know, and I'll bring the new xj down, it's in running/driving condition now!

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

For welding tubes (or anything else) to a cast iron diff am i better off with ENI55 rod or ENI99 rod? Also, in a 3/32 or 1/8 diameter?
I'd like to qualify what I'm going to say with the fact that I've never personally done it, but I have done a bit of reading and discussion on the topic.

ENI55 creates a harder (read: stronger & stiffer weld) while ENI99 is easier to weld but is softer. The trade off to using ENI55 is that it's much more likely to crack the casting around it (because it's so much stiffer). ENI99 is generally considered easier to weld with.

The diameter of the stick is dependent on much current you're going to be running through it. If tube is 1/4"+ thick I'd go with the 3/32 rod. 1/8"-1/4" and I'd do 1/8" rod. Billy, are you talking about truss tubing or the axle tubes? For axle tubes I'd get 3/32 and run the highest amperage that the package allows.

The other important thing to remember when welding cast iron is that it can either be done as a hot operation or a cold operation, but never both (ie, don't switch your plan of attack halfway through). If you preheat, use post heat and insulate it with sand or a welding blanket during cooling. If you choose to go the cold route, 1" length of weld at a time and let everything cool back down. It's pretty tedious and slow going from what I understand, which is why most go with the option of preheating.

Depending on what it is, I'd be inclined to use ENI99 and just tie it into a part that's not cast with a gusset or two with regular mig.

Also, FWIW, Ross has had decent success welding cast iron with MIG and preheat. He uses post heat when he's not being lazy, too.

You're thinking about lunch already? :wierd:

Got in a little while after my boss today. I got in, asked how is vacation was, etc.. then he got up, grabbed a coffee, and said he is going to try and get out of here ASAP. With the list of things he gave me that he has to get done I wouldn't be surprised if he is out of here by noon. That just means I get an early day too.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I was going to weld up tubes on some 8.8s. I have no torch, so i was just gonna do it cold. I'll go with the 99 and FIRI.
I'd say that's a good plan.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

So things are kinda dead in the MWC. 12 hours between posts in Important is pretty shitty. I figure you guys are all awake...
