THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Huh? Didn't you buy your driveshafts from Jess instead of Tom Woods (the guy that supports Fall Crawl every year and was even THERE last year?)
I never said I buy everything from local businesses, just as much as I can.
Utah (where Tom Wood's is located) isn't local to me.
You sure? I'm going to measure tonight because I could have sworn that both XJs I had were 2.25" all the way through. There were definitely no neck downs on them.
110% sure. I ordered this (went back and checked) and it slipped right on were the exhaust crosses over to the pass side. SUM-642510

:bs:

My downpipe doesnt neckdown or anything, like I said before is 2.25" from the header flange to the little pre-cat/resonator then 2.5" back, downpipe and cat. Just went and measured it since its sitting inside my container.

Red jeep, on the other hand, is 2.25" all the way.
The downpipe does not neck down, I never said it did. On a stock Jeep (at least both of mine) it enters the cat as 2.5". I guess neck down wasn't the right term for my to use I should have said reduces through the cat (2.5" in, 2.25" out).

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I do know that it coincides with where they went from a bolt-on flange for the cat inlet (half moon style) to a clamped/welded cat inlet (round peg style.)

:dunno: red jeep (95) is a slip fit/clamped and half moon combo.

Okay, that makes more sense.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I would agree about the business partner thing except when she said I should get in touch I asked if she had a card. She said "no, I don't have one on me now since I'm just heading out shopping". So unless they both just happened to share the day off and want to go shopping together :dunno:
He could be gay? :dunno: It's starting to get stretched thin now haha

On the exhaust topic, the downpipe on my 98 starts at like 1.75 or 2 or something, definitely not 2.5. It very well may end at 2.5.

On the topic of hard alcohols, single malt scotches are what I prefer. Unfortunately, they're so damn expensive that I drink at most 2 bottles a year. It's been a while since I've given a sour mash whiskey a shot (no pun intended). Maybe over the holidays... hmm.

:dunno: nevermind, I guess I don't know.

Keith, if I am regearing both axles... yeah I would do that. If I can find a real cheap set of 4.10s (Ryan, you buying that locker and set of used 4.10s? I'll buy the gears off you if they're for an HP44!) I will toss them in and run them. Looks like the 8.8 goes up to 6.14, sadly the nearest to 5.39 for it is 5.71 which is 6% off and I'm fairly certain that is not a real good idea. Guess I could run 35s on the front and 37s on the rear to even it out :gee:

Yeah, just a bit of a stretch. But oh well, it would be a job.

I found it quite amusing when we were chatting she suddenly said something along the lines of "yeah I just don't want to get f***ing lost again like I always do on my way there [to the braintree plaza]". She then immediately stopped and apologized for language saying she was french. I said no problem and laughed it off. I think THAT is how we got off the topic of directions and onto other stuff which resulted in the work discussion. Strange how shit works out sometimes.

Single malts FTMFW. I haven't had a bottle in ages though. I used to buy a bottle per month but at $70+ per bottle that was pricey. Thinking I might have to pick up a bottle this week for the holidays. Recently I have been drinking some Makers 46.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm most of the way through a 3 week-old bottle of 12 yr Glenlivet. It was only about $40 and I am sad to say that you get what you pay for. It's good, but for $40 you can buy a lot more of a domestic sour mash whiskey or a bourbon and of higher quality. I won't skimp on the next one, whenever I do buy it.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

If I decide to get something in the $40 range I will definitely pick up a bottle of makers mark (or Makers 46) or knob creek. Either that or I will decide to be super cheap and pick up some Jim Beam and coke or something.

Only strange thing is that I think the last bottle of makers 46 I had was from a bad batch. The first I had months ago was smooth and delicious. The 2nd bottle I had last month (into this month) was nowhere near as nice. Picking up a 3rd bottle sooner or later to see if my first bottle was accidentally good or my 2nd was accidentally bad. My buddy loves the stuff so I am leaning towards a bad batch. I'm glad my local packie has continued to stock it ever since I had them special order it for me though :D

I've only had it once, but I did enjoy it.

Ken, that has a sweet cab. I think that's about what Travis is aiming for.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

The newest innovation in rear suspension engineering:

leaf and coil sprung pyramid-shocked dana35 rear, with coil spring crossmember bolted to sawzalled off ends of unibody rails:
http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=218&ad=13258003&cat=402&lpid=&search

(click second pic for details of the horror)

From the condition of what's left of the rear crossmember and driver side unibody rail, I'd guess it was a rear-end crash victim-turned-salvage project.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

yeah, sounds about right.

I want to know what the other end of those leaf springs goes to, and why there are leaf springs at all with coil springs, and why there are no control arms... I fear these are all related questions.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

It's a poor man's dual rate kit :gee:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I would like to think the leaf springs are just there as a temporary means of holding the axle in place until the links are finished.

If I keep saying it, maybe it'll come true.

Think of the leafs as radius arms and the coils as the support. Scary.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

maybe a half assed attempt at a 1/4 elliptical suspension?

EDIT: nevermind why the shit would there be coils there too.

We'll have to wait for Mark then.

If he got a replacement downpipe, I wonder if it had that resonator thingy mabob on it.

Maybe he got one for an OBD-1
Official ruling on the field is:

Bill is correct. 2.5" before cat, 2.25" after cat.

New pipe is 2.25" all the way up until where the cat mounts, which necks up to 2.5". There is no resonator/precat thingy, and there is no dent in it right where it attaches to the header. Also, its a pin, not a half moon mount.

I need to cut off the back pipe after the old cat that has the o2 sensor bung, and that is where I need the adapter. It will be nice though, now I can rotate the o2 sensor so that it isn't 1/4" from the floor, waiting to be broken again.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

If your luck is like mine (and I know it is) your O2 sensor will get nabbed by a branch, stump, or rock about 3 days after you rotate it down lower.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Well I'm obviously not going to point it at the ground. I'll rotate it a few degrees, and it will be perfectly fine, no different really than where it was before.
