THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Boohoo.

I'm gone for a minimum of 10 hours every day for work. Stop whining and get it done.

I'm pounding out a D20 tonight when I get home at probably 7. I left for work at 7 this morning.

you dont have to work on the weekends though, thats what bugs me now. also, let me borrow your tent since i gotta be outside. ive done everything possible inside already. the biggest problem is that now i dont have another vehicle to drive too, otherwise id be doing it right now. i used to at least be able to drive black jeep for a couple of days while i wrenched on red jeep.

I left for work at 530am .!.:D.!.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Im gunna bug my mom and see if I can borrow her car for a few days, her work is only a 1/4 mile away so she can either walk or have my dad drop her off.

So what you're working 40 hours during the week AND weekends...?

Quit crying it's more money. If I could be working weekends right now for the same pay I'd be doing it.

I wanna play with my jeeps instead!!!

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

no, its the fact that now I dont have any free time. I WAS gunna do the swap this weekend, but now I'll be working my ass off both days for probably 10hrs each day trying to get a bigass job done at Northeastern.
Hmm, I wonder if you know anyone who goes to school at Northeastern?

some bag of female cleansing product named Mark.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yup.
And I plan on the xj being a "part of it", ie parked next to or towing it.
Very mobile and ready to go.
awesome, though I think you should get an M715 or M35 for it, could carry more :D

x2.

3" PVC endcap. I built this gun 11 years ago.

That comment was mostly directed towards Adam, as he had the (mis)fortune of standing behind it at Rausch a few weeks ago when the old endcap exploded. I think we had probably cracked it previously trying to unscrew the cap with a gigantic pair of pliers. Dried-up hair spray gunk holds pretty well.

I had also been used to using Aquanet, but apparently Suave extra-hold requires some different stoichiometry for an optimal mixture. Later testing has shown that it's a much more potent fuel.

After that failed, and the subsequent trip to the hardware store in downtown Pine Grove on a sunday night over labor day weekend failed, I still had most of a 5-lb bag of potatos left. We may or may not have removed the cast-iron fill plug from the fuel/oil tank by the office with a big pipe wrench, which might or might not have had the same threads/diameter as the PVC cap. Furthermore, I will neither confirm or deny that a potato fired from close range can go through the windshield of an XJ, as well as put a decent dent in a rear quarter panel.

The gun itself (and the combustion chamber volume vs. barrel length, etc) has a ton of testing & tweaking time. The one in question is Spudnik II; the first one was a really basic test mule; III was a mini gun for shooting chunks of the leftover scraps, and IV has a 10-foot barrel. II, III, and IV are all scale models of each other and the large one has gone over 1000 feet with Aquanet. II will reliably go between 600-700 feet on hairspray, with a muzzle velocity of over 100 MPH, and I've punched holes in 1/2" plywood with it.

II also features electronic ignition (courtesy of Weber), a shoulder rest (taken from a Nintendo Super Scope 6), a scope (the small spotting one from a telescope), and a little thru-bolt right at the bottom of the barrel so that you never have to worry if the potato is in the right spot.

I'll dig up a pic, but here are the technical details:
http://pages.prodigy.net/dmacock/photos/spudnik ii results.doc
Potato cannon 1 - built in high school / community college, 1" diameter barrel, 4" diameter combustion chamber 3' long, rifled, about 14 seconds of flow from a propane torch was PERFECT. I could hit a six inch target at 50 yards no problem. Confiscated by WPI campus police after I fired stale bread across the dorm compound a couple times at a friend's bedroom window (no damage.) Older female cop was all business and intimidation, younger male cop just looked back and forth between me, the cannon, and older female cop and grinned like an imbecile, I could tell it would likely be kept in good hands and used frequently after I lost it
Potato cannon 2 - built in junior year at WPI, same rough chamber size but had interchangeable barrels (1" copper, 2" PVC) and used compressed air @ 160psi instead of propane. You know those really big phillips head screwdrivers for ski bindings and similarly sized fasteners? We fired one of those straight through a steel computer case. Went through the cover, both sides of the HD rack, the motherboard tray, and the other side of the cover, sheared the handle off, the steel bar dug a couple of 3 foot long furrows into the lawn as it bounced and was never seen again. We searched 150 feet downrange and ended at a brick wall and never located it. Confiscated by WPI campus police during their search of the hacker club apartment after the aforementioned other hacker club members got caught, along with the usual throwing knives, airsoft ammo, lock picks, a starter motor with 24" propeller attached, half a jumper cable, and a car battery.
Potato cannons 3, 4, 5, and 6 (perhaps more, we find another one or two every six months or so) - constructed, lost, and re-discovered in my apartment, my friend Jack's apartment, and the storage unit over the past 3 years. Varying propellants, design philosophies (multi-point ignition? yes please!), bores, and power levels.
Potato cannon 7 or so - built to fire regular glass marbles. Should be functional within the next few weeks.

Chris, you should try using propane or mapp gas instead of hairspray.
x2, aside from compressed air, propane is probably my favorite. Once you do a bit of experimentation to get the charge right, a simple timed count while filling from an unignited propane torch makes for very repeatable firings...

I got home from work around 3AM and was back by 6AM, and I am still alive and kicking with no caffeine.

(I have no idea what building were gunna be in, we gotta rig a bunch of bigass air moving units up like 4 stories of stairs.)

whine whine whine. when i'm the shift rotations at work i'm probably gone from the house about 23 hours straight (provided we get back on time), then only have about 14 hours to sleep, shower, eat, and get any jeep work done that i need to get done. weekends and holidays don't exist in my line of work!

oh and half of the time i have to be at work at 3:30am, screw your 5:30am! .!.:D.!.

but.... when we get the pumps firing up and all going straight to WOT, its an AWESOME sight!

You guys think a bolt welded like so would work for a shock mount? I'd probably add a little gusset or something to help support it too. Clearence is the other issue Im worried about

The first part is contradictory, how can I be a hoe and a prude? As for the second part well, you may be correct

Most likely Richards Hall, its 4 stories tall and they are in the process of redoing it. I'll come point and laugh, make you drop one of those big ass things.

Ross, chop the head of the bolt off so the shank is straight up against that corner, and you will have less amount of material to fill in between the shank and the perch, and there will be less of a moment on that bolt weld. Plus, that is exactly how TNT does their bolt mounts.

Here, you can just see the bolt threads covered in blue painters tape under the coil mounts.

Ooooo, I like that idea!!! I could use something with a long non-threaded shank to give me like an inch to weld on and a smooth area for the shock bushing and leave a couple of threads at the end for the nut.
