the threads are actually mangled? :(

Any chance you can just assemble it and run it the way it is for nacfest? Sounds like worst case is that it wrecks the gears, and they're already wrecked. Hell, you could probably tack weld the pinion nut to the end of the pinion and get away with it.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I have to go check now. I just got home from calss and talked to Jeff at just differentials about 5 minutes ago. I'll report back soon though.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Okay so one thread is absolute effed, 3 are shiney. I'm going to call a guy my Dad knows at a mach shop to see what he can do about the effed thread, set the preload on the tight side and put a tack on the end of the nut. worst case scenario is I do this and it lossens up, locks up and destroys my gear set and I buy a new set. If I dont do this I buy a gear set. Looks like no matter what I do I'm buying gears so eff it I wanna run this... NOW!

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

 go for it... real worst case you might munch up the carrier/locker I guess, but I think a full case (it is a full case right?) locker shouldn't jam against the pinion too bad if it does spit it out.

EDIT: Bill, from facebook it looks like he sold a yamaha motorcycle or something :dunno:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

hmmm... well it's a high pinion so just try not to gas it too much in reverse I guess :roflmao: in forward the pinion should be being pushed into the back of the housing, so there won't be much stress on the pinion nut lengthwise.

I believe they're 7/8-18 threads on a d30 pinion, maybe just run a die over the threads to clean them up?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm sure it isn't that hard to assemble? Probably just time consuming.

after setting up 3 of them, ive found the tricks that make it way easier. i setup the last one all by myself with no problems. the tube pieces dont really attacth to eachother, the skin is meant to be pulled tight which holds the whole frame together. i like to tape the tube joints to each other, keeps everything together but allows for some twisting and such to get it all together. make sure you put the bolts threads facing INWARD so they dont catch the skin when youre putting it on :gee:

:dunno: i think i mighta passed some of it on to him when i rode with him. sorry if i got some of it on you :D

when they have a front leaf spring theme, i'm gonna enter and dominate

i never vote for things, but i WILL vote for you if that happens

I dont have that kind of die and I'm just going to call this machine shop dude to see what he can do for me.

i believe i got that size tap, i got pretty much everything up to 1". after cleaning them up, i was gunna suggest a tack on it too.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Damn, the guy is on vacation hiking. I'm going to call the hardware store to see if I can get a die to chase the threads or if they have one I can borrow.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread
