THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm not going through 5 pages and quoting everyone.

But I almost want to go Saturday just to see Mark wheel.

And Rob, garage looks awesome. Way better.

I'm fairly okay with it...

What's your backlash at? If it's within spec, I'd say the pinion is too shallow. There's still a fine line at the top of the teeth.

That line is why I commented too. I thought that since the patches on drive/coast were on the same part of the gear as far as heel to toe it meant that the backlash was too large. But, if backlash is within spec, I think you're right that the pinion is too shallow.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Backlash was at .18mm (.007"). My issue is my kit sucks and doesnt have anything between a .018" and .027" but when I torqued down the bearing caps it threw it out to .21mm (.008").

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

First, I don't claim to be an expert.

I'm guessing backlash is between .006-.010"? If so then you're right on (for now).

But your pinion is too shallow. I'd say throw (just a guess) a .005" shim to deepen it, but this is going to tighten up your backlash.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Colin, I think you're right.

Keith, I know it's a PITA, but you should be doing torquing the bearing caps each time you run a pattern...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yeah I'm going to reset the backlash and torque everything down and then I'll take another set of pictures because my dad wants to show his differential guy at the garage, then I'llpost them up here too. The other problem is I already put my new pinion bearings in and new crush collar in and torqued that all down, then found that the shim pack in the d30 install kit are teh same size as the 8.25 kit and have thinner shims.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Just go to your dad's diff guy and get a new crush sleeve :dunno:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yeah... gears aren't something you want to have to redo when they break.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

It's not like a guy who sells diff stuff, he works for my dad and used to build rear ends at another garage before and is just pretty good at it.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

ZMBKLR is listed as available... hmmmm. I'm not much of a fan of zombie apocalypses (apocalypti?) so you should use that one.
Just a heads up, you probably won't get that license plate. The RMV can be pretty stupid when it comes to what they allow.

I was denied FUBAR and INSANE.

Try giving it more resistance/pressure when you run the pattern, you will get better markings in the gear marking compound.

What could you possible have better to do than go Saturday? Quit being a pansy and go.

P.S. are you going to be seeing Ross before Saturday? I want to get those rear shocks from you, I'm tired of bottoming out. I just hope my welds fail on the shock mounts, rather than the housing should I continue to have any more good hits.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I know a guy that put in for 'LVTOFU' and he was trying to justify it saying 'I love tofu.'

I just layed the smack down in the one ton and done thread.

I scored 2 nazi daggers of an addict for 30 bucks.....I want a helmet!

my dads got some hitler youth nazi knives.

i could probly grab them from him at some point maybe if i remember.

Then remember.

Off to go change my fan clutch.

Officially done with summer classes for the rest of my life.

Oh, Jeff, my finger is a little purple today.

I'll probably have to finish the gauges in my truck and I want to start the inner rail plating on my MJ.

I don't think I'll get to see him before Saturday unless he stops by my house.

You're not cool enough to hurt a housing :D

I refuse to own anything with a swastika on it. Makes shopping for knives at pawn shops a little difficult unfortunately.

yeah, I am going to leave ZMBKLR for Jeff to try and get. I would probably justify it by claiming to be a zamboni collector, and needing the 5ton to haul zambonis around.

11.00x20 NDTs (what it has on it, but with 80% tread) for 95 each (so 950 total), 46" Michelin XMLs that will require me to supersingle for 200 each (1200 total)... decisions :( if I knew more about the rims I'd need, this would be way easier. Just got a quote back on a full gasket set and some other parts I need.

$1320 plus shipping if I ordered NDTs+everything

oh and my new headlights showed up  I will have low beams again... and they will STILL be far enough up to make everyone flash me to turn my hi-beams off, unfortunately.

EDIT: called the mass RMV to see if I could get the year changed on the title (since it was built in 58 and titled as a 90 due to a rebuild that consisted solely of new paint and a new engine, something that would not affect any other vehicle) and the fat-assed bureaucrats want me to go back to Pennsylvania to get the seller of the M54A2 to do it... in PA... and then send me the updated title. God I hate bureaucrats, I guess I'll just register it as a 90, end up commercial due to axle count, get bent over and screwed hard, and try and make some money with the damn thing.
