THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

colin, i stayed up till 2am after i got home from your house

 I'm not surprised. You must not have gotten home until like 1?

On that note, I think I'm going to do the plating as we talked about. Extend down to just before the lower pinch seam, but come up and grab the top pinch seams.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i was home at 1230 actually. our houses are only 35-40 mins apart...

about the plating: sweet. i think that will be good.

so, if i happened to have a doubler setup for sale, who would be interested and for how much?
I feel like I should clarify: No, I'm not scrapping my stuff. But I now have enough stuff to make a 2nd doubler and making a two instead of one isn't that much more work. I think what I'd sell is a 231 chopped and welded together, backing plate, clocking ring, coupling shaft and then you would need to supply your own output transfer case. These kits (not including a cut up and welded back together 231) sell for $500 typically. Would $400 be too much to ask for this home-made kit?

edit: does anyone have a totally boned transmission they don't need? the only thing i'm missing is an output shaft

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Hmm... Anthony, not sure I would buy one but it's because I'm a cheap bastard and don't really need a doubler.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

any thoughts on that compressor?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I've got about 11.5 hours left at work today. god I hate mondays.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'd check to see how that pinhole happened. If it's what I suspect, no one ever drained the water out of it and the pinhole is in the middle of a huge area of paper thin metal and it will need a whole new tank. If I'm wrong, you might be able to fix it.

i though i was already gunna get the second one since ill help you make them :D when i was laying undermine laying out the crossmembers and middle stiffys, i was thinking hard about a 231/231 setup, rear case with 6 pin HD planetry and HD wide chain and junk.

i've heard those came factory in ZJs, but i have never confirmed it.

im gunna get one outta a S10 so i can get the wide chain and 6 pin, and i also need the shifter arm so i can flip my linkage upward and run baby heims

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Why use another lame chain driven case.

im just that lame. for the time being, ill be a cheapass and get some cheap deeper gearing. after i get the jeep going, ill dump the rear case and go to something cooler that does front digs :greensmok

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Why couldn't you use a different case?

What's the output spline on those coupling shafts?

Would an EB D20 work?

EDIT: Actually an EB D20 probably wouldn't work. Input gear is tied to the adapter housing.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

it can be whatever, were making them from srcatch. id do another 231 for simplicity and that i already have one, about to be 2 when i remove red jeeps, that i can use

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yes but you're basically loosing out on an additional 4 gears because the two boxes both have 2.72:1 ratios.

AKA put box 1 in low and box 2 in hi and it's the same as if you put box 2 in low and then box 1 in hi.

If you have one box with 2.72:1 and the other with a 2:1 (or 4:1 or whatever) then you get 2.72:1, 2:1 (or 4:1 or whatever), and then the combination.

Though 231-231 is definitely cheap, cant argue that.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Hmm I have a spare 231 chilling out too... Ross do it up and make a build thread for it, or a write up in your thread.

Not to be a jerk, but I only need your Bridgeport to make a D300 flip kit. I can do the 231 parts all on my own.

That's kinda what I was afraid of with the compressor too. I'd be tempted to do a ghetto patch, though.

My bet is that if you try, you will blow through every time you attempt to weld to it, till the whole bottom is swiss cheese. Plan on getting a new tank and I think it should be fine.

If you are making things I think I would be more inclined to purchase a D300 flip kit than a 231 doubler... I would love to get a D300 flipped & installed, then I could add a doubler to that when/if I get strong enough axles.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

eeh, i'm not opening my own machine shop just yet. someday i'll buy my own bridgeport and lathe, but not quite yet. hell, i might try to buy ross's :D (i have room for it at my current garage..)
