THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

thanks for the offer. it may come in handy (read: it may come in handy in 2 years when my jeep is back together :conceited)
Or if you have to move again before then, we can just winch it into the back and drive :roflmao:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Ken, That truck is awesome. Are you going to drive it up to NH on the 21st?
Most likely. I have another two weeks worth of nights (less weekends, too busy then) to finish welding up the junk on my 96, build some ramps, and get it ready to go.

That MJ is nice. If it was a HO I would be all over it.
I'd buy a RENIX rig. I know nothing about debugging / fixing them right now but hey, it's another excuse to learn something.

Also, between the 5speed in the M54 and the manual shift I'm working on for the 98 (and 91, and 96...), driving a plain old automatic is feeling downright weird. Half the time I find myself reaching for the gearshift switch / torque converter lockup switch or going for the clutch.

My rockauto order arrived while I was away :D Looks like I'm installing new exhaust on the MJ sometime soonish.

EDIT: Ryan, looks good to me, need another couple bolts on the bumper brackets (30mm long ISO PC10.9 M10x1.5 should work for the rearmost stock location) and maybe swap those tie-ins out like you said. Also, it looks like you need some lights now...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Ryan,

Bumper doesn't look too bad, I'm not a big fan of tube bumpers though. Also, that should work fine for recovery. I used regular tow hook brackets for a long time (same attachment style) and never had a problem. They even lifted the front end of my old XJ off the ground by them.

I'd be more worried about the fact that your steering box isn't reinforced.

exactly what i was gonna say.

you can never reinforce that area too much. i reccomend plating it all the way to the trackbar mount. that area sees the most stress out of any other on an xj.

If you don't get your rig done by then you should bring the M54 up on the 21st in case someone else (read: me) breaks down  I still don't know if I trust my transmission but I will def try to make the drive up and hopefully make it back home in one piece.

And I would also buy a renix rig but probably not for that kind of money, I'm also partial to the HO models since they have the AX-15. Though lately I have still been eying a couple late 80's MR2s for short change. I still kinda like the idea of having a small car for good fuel economy and fun.. Drive the MR2 in good weather and the Jeep when it's snowing.. would work fine for me I think.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

ryan, look at my FS thread. i modded the mounts on one of those bumpers to grab the steering box too.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

as far as the tube look i never really was a fan, but hey this thing was free so i figured i'd give it a shot. im sure it'll grow on me. and i have a beefy inner spacer for the steering box, but i definately want a tie in that incorporates the steering box mounts.

oh and i snapped that third stock bolt when taking the stock bumper off, still gotta drill that sucker out and replace it.

plz dont drive it with 2 bolts

i have heard horror stories. lotsa leverage there

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I wasn't a fan of tube bumpers either, but then I got one for a great price and it's growing on me.

Ryan - stock bolts are grade 8, 7/16-14, 4.5" long. If you want to get good thread engagement you will replace them all with 4.75" or 5" bolts (depending on how much thickness is added by those braces, make sure the bolts you get are threaded far enough up the shank to not bottom out.)

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Probably did.

I'm kinda surprised, I have 2 of the rustiest jeeps around here and they came out without even using pb-blaster/aerokroil on both of mine, no flame wrench either. Heck, even my steering box bolts came out easily.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

correct, third stock bumper bolt

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread
