THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

No, but I'm gonna have experience fixing rot under the top edge of the windshield as soon as I can find a garage... damn I still gotta call people up.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

holy shit, WJ brakes in front + ZJ disks in rear = ridiculous stopping power

i ran that setup for a while. it was awesome.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

omg.

I just discovered some more code I'm going to have to port.

Let's just say that "out of the frying pan, into the fire" applies... I have never seen our debugger scripting language abused in such a, uh, creative way.

On that note, will I have a problem heating+bending 1018 galvanized .750" bar stock? Need to make some bars to lock in the trailer ramps. The one Ken sent me flew out while I was driving. Don't feel like killing anyone :gee:.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Depends, how much heat do you have? :gee: :flame:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I think oxy/acetylene might be overkill... unless you want to melt it in half. My bet is that MAPP/oxy will do it if you give it long enough.

Maybe bore a hole sideways through the end and use a hitch pin clip on it this time to keep it from flying out?

Not to be a broken record... if you want to get it taken care of over the course of a week I will have garage space available in early July.

I kinda want WJ brakes up front but don't want to spend the $$, so I will deal with the stock ones; running with XJ brakes up front, '96 XJ booster, and crown vic disks out back is plenty good anyway. I'm just surprised my XJ actually has disks all around. Now my dirtbike is the only vehicle I own that still has rear drum brake.

I dont think oxy/acetylene is overkill. Just use a rosebud tip and you will be fine. I used my oxy/acetylene and rosebud tip to bend some 3/8" (or something around that size) all-thread and it worked great.

And breathing protection... because zinc oxides are not a good way to get your US recommended daily allowance of zinc.

EDIT - Scott, would take you up on that offer but it's kinda tough because you live a significant distance away and it's presently my daily driver. It HAS to hold together till I get either the 98 or the 96 into DDable condition as the backup vehicle again. It's going to involve cutting out sheetmetal, welding, paint prep, a little bit of painting, and gluing the new windshield in.

I figured the distance might be a problem but if you want to stop by early sat and work on it through monday over the holiday wkend that would be an option. My 'rents leave on vaca at some point on sat. and you are welcome to crash at my place. Or bring the 96/98 down and finish one of them up if you want. It's up to you, I will be spending that entire wkend doing one of a handful of things: working on Jeep, drinking, relaxing by pool, maybe riding motorcycle depending how much of #2 is done, *leaving myself room for a couple other things here*

I ran it from May to Feb or so, when I took my jeep off the road. I only wheeled it a few times, though... I had ZJ brakes for a year and a half.

the heat will likely screw up the galvanization, but it will make it easier to bend. I'd just get regular steel stock and POR-15 the poop out of it... why are you getting bar stock and not round stock? isn't the hole a 3/4" dia round hole?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

just checkin... part of me wanted to let you try to fit a square peg into a round hole.

The 96 is not highway capable at this point in time - I'm not sure the shackle will remain connected to the frame, there is no floor, etc. It'll fold like a taco.

The 98 is closer... need to fix the lights/frontend up still, put a bumper on it (steal the one off the 96 and put the ORF bumper on there instead) then install a rear driveshaft + slip yoke boot and bolt the seats down. Maybe even move the shifter legend back into place so I stop putting it in neutral while aiming for reverse :anon:

The real problem is that some of this stuff requires a garage before it can really drive... and to get to a garage I need to drive. Somewhat of a catch 22.
