THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

$500 would be a good deal.

Just got him down to $550 (he said he got another offer at $550). I told him I can guarantee that I can show up on Friday with $500 but other than that I am currently tight on cash with end of month bills coming up, but that I will let him know how I am looking for funds in a couple days and if I can come up with any more.

I will probably email him tomorrow night and tell him I can do $525 or something like that and say I will stop by after work on Friday with cash if he says he will take $525.

sweet. did you look into other specs or models or are you just gonna jump in and impulse buy it?

I was actually just logging in before passing out to post up and ask if you had any other cameras you would recommend looking into.

I was looking at them a couple months back (or maybe it was the previous model). I was pretty much heartset on a rebel a few months ago after my last round of searching but talked myself out of it, particularly since the ones which supported video capture were still pushing $700 on CL back then (IIRC it was the rebel XTi, but I'm not sure). Anyway, the video capture isn't really a hard requirement though I would like (aka it would be nice) to be able to capture a video without carrying another video camera. The T1i supports video so I figured I could drop $300 on a good point & shoot type of deal and get OK pics or drop $500-$550 on something which seems to be significantly better and use that for at least the next few years. Just the convenience of being able to switch over and shoot a video (in the case of this T1i it does full HD which is even better) is a nice thing in my opinion. I don't expect GREAT video capture since I am buying it as a camera, not a video camera... but just having the option is nice.

So long story short I am kindof jumping in impulse but I am basing alot of it off of research I did no more than 4-5 months ago.

Xj is back on all fours with the new shock crossmembers installed, frame replaced from the right bumpstop back, gas tank frame rebuilt, new exhaust, and a new shackle box. It also has mj rear shocks in it (both ends bpe-less, about the right length, really stiff valving though) and gas tank is remounted in stock location. No floors yet though :gee:

My bitchy downstairs neighbors pitched a fit to the landlord because I was still cutting and grinding at 8:10, the rule (THEY came up with this) is 9 is the cutoff for being loud, landlord still called me up, reamed me out, told me my jeep has to be off the property by tomorrow morning or it gets towed. Guess I can see whose side they're on :smsoap: and I'll be limping it to wherever I live next with no floor in the back.

Oh yeah, I finally said the hell with it and quit (tried to on friday but my boss talked me out of it), didn't go in today, gonna turn my badge and laptop in tomorrow morning. I applied at autozone because the manager jokingly told me I should :gee: though if I get hired I doubt I'll stay past a few months. Need to start looking for actual hardware design / embedded jobs, I'm sick and tired of being a software dev (albeit cool software) and I was only moving further and further fron the hardware, plus the ridiculous hours and bs politics crap.

So yeah, that's why I was barely on at all today... Instead of being pissed off in a cube I was welding and fabbing the hell out of my jeep in the pouring rain

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Ken, good luck finding a job! lmk if you find somewhere who is hiring more than one person, I just passed my 1 year with my company and may be starting a job hunt for a similar type job.

Oh, that and potentially buying a house and quitting a job... not something I would normally do in the same week :gee:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

x2 on Good Luck with the job hunt, Ken

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

ken, good luck.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I deem this a successful repair, just test drove it 5 miles or so, stayed together and nothing even fell out of the back.

EDIT:

Thanks guys... for now I'm probably just gonna go for a "pays the bills" type job, Meineke/autozone/valvoline/something of that nature. I am buying the house cash and hopefully will have enough savings left after that to keep going for a month or two while very carefully choosing what parts of the house to fix first.

That, and I'm also going to be kicking a lot more time into the custom jeep electronics now. Don't be surprised if you see my name suddenly turn blue one of these days :eyes: Most of the ideas I have are stuff that I would love to design just for the hell of it, but haven't had the motivation to work on after getting home from work. Unless the house sucks up most of my time (it's a dawn to dark sort of project) I should be working on that stuff a lot more...

ken, good luck x whatever it is now! working at autozone WOULD be a better job that what you've described at intel.

and ken or scott, if this job does go through with me for doing natural gas drilling stuff, i can ask if there are more positions. there are at least two (since they've expressed interest in hiring me and another guy i graduated with), but might be hiring like 5 or 6 so who knows. it does seem rad since this would be my / your office:

(although replace the blue trucks with red, different company)

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I would totally be down for that. It'd be in PA though I'm assuming - any idea what the schedule is like? You were saying it might be a couple real intense weeks followed by a couple weeks off, etc? I forget... and at this point unless the seller backs out I am buying a house here in Mass so I would want at least some time to head back and work on it / chill with the northeast guys.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

from what i've seen it would be like 14 days on / 7 days off (at least in theory). if / when i do get an actual offer and therefore tenative start date i'll ask about it.

i'm looking up more pictures and whatnot and it can be like this many trucks

running like 10,000 psi pumping up to like 100 barrels per minute, with trucks having 3000+ hp pumps in them

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

oh yeah, I have an amazing welding sunburn/tan/whatever. I look like I just spent the last two days on the beach, not in a jeep in a pouring rainstorm :roflmao:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Ken, I still don't know how you went from saying "I wish I just had alot more cash to buy a house w/o taking a loan" one month to "I got cash to buy a house" the next month. :laugh3: I completely forgot about that, so I guess the buying a house thing isn't THAT bad since you wouldn't have a mortgage payment.

And that would be an awesome office. Right now I look forward and see.. gray cube walls :banghead: Though I did just finish eating a muffin. It was tasty. That was the highlight of my morning. Now back to managing spreadsheets, sigh. Though I guess I really shouldn't complain. Comparatively speaking I got a pretty cushy job here, heh, it just sucks from time to time, but at least I'm not putting in 60 hour weeks too often.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i think ima call up deaver and see how quickly i can get a pair of springs

a lot of money spent now is better than a decent amount of money spent every couple years and having shitty leafs inbetween.

probably get some 5150's paired with em

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

ken, buying a house cash: awesome

sam: deavers is nice

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

It's a really damn cheap house and they dropped the price again before I actually got my offer in. They probably would have dropped it again a few days later but I was worried someone else would pick it up.

As for cash, a combination of things happened. I sold a bunch of stock from my bonuses for the last two years, the two guys who are also going to be living there lent me some money and said to consider it rent till I can pay them back (because I'm only going to be charging them 100/mon and utilities), and I inherited a bit of money I never expected to.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yeah I would kill to get to be outside and still have an engineering job :spin1:

I wouldn't mind a cube job quite so much if it was what I really want to do with my life - embedded systems design, actual hardware stuff. I was just getting further and further from that, plus everything else.

Ok... Off to get stuff done.
