THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Just an FYI for anyone interested, spent the morning hitting up Everetts and Brockton Auto Parts. Everetts had a few WJs, Brake MCs and one actually had one knuckle off and the other was stripped down with just the Ball Joints to separate from the C.

Brockton Auto Parts has two CJ7's if anyone is interested in a Dana 300 (or 2). They also had a Grand Wagoneer with a pair of D44s under it.

Crap I may have to get the axleshafts out of that waggy...maybe on Saturday.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Colin, exactly what I thought of on the phone with you happened. The gasket for the master got sucked into the booster, and it was chilling in there. Vacuum leak is now gone, but I still don't have the hardest pedal in the world.

It still stops pretty good when the pedal travels more. I think I'm just going to take it back to Boston.

awesome. Will have to head over there. Were there any XJs at either? I need both a pre-97 and a post 95 or whatever. Need axle shafts with bigger joints from a later model and a grey interior (carpet/headliner) from an older model.

And does anyone know the going rate for a D300 at a yard?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Nah. You are paying for all those fancy fittings.
I got this, but granted it might not fit in the Nova.
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/BMM-70268/

thats mainly what i need, the cooler i can get anywhere and make my own mounts, blah blah blah. the lines are trashed though and have full length headers in the way. Id like to get the cool fittings right on the tranny and full some stainless braided down the subframe rail. OR, do i just flare the old lines a couple inches off the tranny and run some rubber lines down the rail?

brakes suck. the nova was Begleyed, it used to pull brake fuild down the vacumm line into the engine. it had a Begleyed dist. block and lines and valve junk :D

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Colin, the Grand Waggy is down the first row, just past the building on the left.

Everetts only had one XJ, I believe it was a 98 and had ABS if I remember correct.

BAP had one later XJ sitting out front (right near a bad ass Econoline van, 60s/70s). There are a few pre 97s out in the yard and I think one or two were 96s but I honestly cant remember what they had for rear ends.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Alright, thanks. If there are a couple 96s I should get over there ASAP so I can pull the booster from that instead of using a WJ booster with spacers  I will give a call over and see what they want for axle shafts and booster/master cyl.

I'm the best procrastinator in the world.

If you wait until the last minute....it gets done in a minute!! :D

And, sorry about the AIM bullshit, guys... I'm using TerraIM right now, hopefully it'll allow me some time to track down the real AIM virus...it's a doozey =/

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

soon, very soon
If you can get a guesstimate on prices, I may be interested in 20 ft of 3x3x3/16, 20 ft of 2x6x3/16, and 10 ft of 1" or 1.5" square (depending on how much of a price difference there is)

can you get a stick of 2" OD 0.250 wall for me?
FWIW the closest place to me (and therefore probably closest to Ross) is Marmon where I went last wk (otherwise I would have dealt closer). They said they probably have a 2 wk period before they will have 2" OD .250 wall. So if you want it from them you should place an order soonish..

If you need DOM I could probably borrow a vehicle again and pick it up for you if you cover gas for me. Gas would probably run about $50 if you want me to keep pieces as long as possible (took me a little over half a tank round trip from Halifax to Southampton and back, 31 gallon tank, figure from there). If you know the lengths you need and I can cut the tube on site the fuel price will drop a lot since I could cut it down there and bring the altima (27-30mpg) rather than bringing the suburban (16mpg)

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

we'll see. i'll let you know scott. that's awfully generous of you. but if i knew the lengths i could do the same in the GTI.

youd have to deal with 1/4 wall 2x6. i dunno about stuff smaller then 2", if youre getting it for the legs for the rockers, just use 2x2. and why do you need 20 ft of 2x6, got more in mind then just rockers? it only takes 12ft

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I can't believe I just read through ten pages of BS... oh wait yes I can :roflmao:

i found some last time but i figured theyre a little outta my league. any 60's?
yeah they're over by that massive stack of scrap bins behind the commercial vehicle section (the rockwells, that is. I didn't see any 60s but I wasn't looking really.) PS I tripped over the drums off your 14bolt and nearly landed in that damn lake of swamp water we were standing in last time :gee: that's where I spent most of my time this run because I was robbing every diesel I could find of its turbo.

nice. Any other WJ boosters to be had? And you didn't happen to see any old ford cars did ya? I want to grab some spare axle shafts for my 9" but I think the only cars they came in were torinos and maybe some stangs, etc... I think I may have to pick up another set of alloys for spares :dunno:

And I wouldn't be surprised if 'what is there, is there'... I would think that they are doing this to clear the yard of all parts and then will get rid of alot of sh*t and bring new stuff in. Maybe I am wrong, idk. Any pre-97 XJs with a clean(ish) grey interior? I just need the carpet and headliner

Nice, all easy stuff. Shouldn't be long now  Taking a video of the first start?
There's one WJ booster at least (it's in a V8 WJ) and there might be others. Didn't see fords but I wasn't really looking for em, sorry. A lot of the vehicles that are there, I recognize from last year - at least in the commercial vehicle section. Holland's seems to have a lot less churn than I'm used to, and in general is more of a mess, and more fun to screw around in than the yards I'm used to.

Ask them how much they want for the rockwells
Sorry, didn't see this in time... I'd bet on a couple hundred, unless you can get Ross to really hulk up and carry one. I think they weigh like 700 apiece though.

i'm also fairly certain that a lot of the bolts i loosened today were stretch bolts. that's a damn shame. because they're going back in. i'll replace them if she clunks.
ugh, stretch bolts can go to hell.

Ross, let me know when that tool swap thingy is, I'll be down to go to that.

The Blairwitch has been renamed to the Blairbitch, because its a bastard.
When reconnecting battery, the alarm system goes off. Took me over 20 minutes to get the keyfob to work to shut it off, only to find out the battery didn't have enough juice to start it, and then it went back to flashing the alarm.
Took it for a drive to break in the brakes, got back to find out the battery was not just dead, it was bad, as I couldn't restart the car literally 10 seconds after I turned it off. 1 year old battery from red Jeep is in it.

I think I need to re-bleed the master or the entire system. It pulls to the left under heavy braking as well.
Sounds like that alarm needs to be disabled/removed ASAP.

Reduced fat ones SUCK. I'm all for eating healthy but I'm against eating food that taste like a polar bear's dick.
:roflmao::roflmao:

i was unaware that polar bear genitalia tasted like reduced fat cheezits. but are we talking male or female? it makes a difference
:roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:

... wait, how do you guys know so much about what polar bear dick tastes like?

I wanted them to wrap around the front but I guess it doesnt really matter. Ima check out the black pipe tomorrow at Home depot and ask my Dad if they have any scrape tubing at the shop I can snag.
I spent this evening welding together a frame for my compressor/generator out of that poop pipe, the stuff I got was stamped INDIA. I'll have to check if it's marked with a grade/schedule in the AM.

So as much as I like the freetown place I won't be returning there for a while I dont think. I called up and asked if they had any XJs for the axleshafts. They said yeah they got a couple in in the past week(s). So I made the drive down and, nope, no new XJs. And the one XJ that was there (which I couldn't get the shafts off last time I was there) had the front axle missing this time. Even before I went in the yard they asked what I needed and I told them and got a "yeah you should be able to find that" answer.

Now I hate the 2$ yard fee.
dunno, 2 bucks isn't the end of the world. I don't even bother asking what is in the yard at Sam's anymore, they have no idea and tell me that straight up so I just check myself.

Probably my best weld today. My camera blows.

No HAZ because I was using 110V to weld .250"
Looks really nice to me, mine are mostly ugly as hell but seem to hold fairly nicely.

just get a tranny cooler from an exploder.
X2

Mmmmm, Booster is leaking at Master cylinder.

MMM, RTV....
Doesn't brake fluid rape RTV...?

I need to leave work on time tomorrow so I can finish welding this frame up and get the 2.slow mounted on its new home :repair:

yeah but I am closer and it gets me out of work early  but really if you want longer lengths give me some heads up and I am pretty sure I will be able to borrow the suburban. The more heads up I can get the better, will let me advertise my planned route and if anyone else needs something I can pick it up as well.

1/4" wall works fine for the 2x6 if the price is right. same with the 2x2.

I never measured for rockers so I guesstimated 14 ft (to give myself some extra) and I will also need some to add to the rear bumper to wrap around once I cut my fenders... I could get away with 16 ft I guess but the extra 4 could be used for a crossmember somewhere so I wasn't complaining about having extra steel laying around. Plus most places I have found charge at least $15-20 for a cut (highest was $30), so I figure getting a full length is better rather than paying to cut 4 ft off.

There's one WJ booster at least (it's in a V8 WJ) and there might be others. Didn't see fords but I wasn't really looking for em, sorry.

dunno, 2 bucks isn't the end of the world.
Thanks, I didn't expect you to see the fords but thought incase you did see something I would ask. Good to know about the booster(s) and such. And regarding the 2$ I am FULLY willing to pay that and more for the raised vehicles they offer... I mean I'm really not mad about $2 at all because I got plenty of parts that would have sucked to pull anywhere else. I am pissed that I called, was told that they got new vehicles I needed, I then made some 30 min drive down, was again told they should have the parts I want, then I paid to enter the yard and find... nothing I wanted.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I will soon be the proud owner of a Mitutoyo dial indicator and magnetic base. Here I come custom driveshafts here I come BITCHES.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

yeah, that's a bit of a kicker. Luckily the guys at Sam's don't bullshit, they won't claim they have a vehicle and they won't tell you they don't.

They'll also usually let you back in for free the same day if you still have the ink stamp on your hand. I've had to go to Sears to buy tools (the 12-point sockets to pull the DS off my 8.8 for instance) midway through a trip and only paid for admission once.

They did have several new ZJs so maybe the guy on the phone (and at the counter) confused Cherokee and Grand Cherokee... the problem was that NONE of the ZJs had a front driveshaft for me to snag and I didn't have the correct socket (or wrench) to pull a pitman arm. So my trip was useless. I guess I got spoiled with free admission at everetts... but now paying $$ to check if they have something pisses me off. Esp like today when I am told they have something only to pay and then find that they don't have it.

What really pissed me off was when I was getting checked out (aka bags searched) I asked "is there any other place you may have cherokees? I was told you had a couple new ones come in recently but there was nothing in the yard where I looked". I was told "nah, not that I can think of, shit happens" (literally was told "shit happens"). Oh and for some reason this yard asks where you are from when you show up... when I showed up they said "oh, Halifax is a pretty long drive" so they knew I didn't come because, ya know, the wind was blowing from the south and I felt like I was in the mood or something. But still took my $$ and told me that what I was looking for should be in the yard. Anyway, I will now probably go back to everetts (or brockton... never knew of brockton until today ) rather than go down there. I love the yard and may make a monthly visit to see what's new and get what I can... other than that... not likely. I will go to everetts or brockton or sams.
