THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

 I'm going to cut up a couple front XJ shafts tomorrow. Here I come custom driveshafts!

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I just laid under my Jeep for a while (after going for a drive around the block) and realized that something is leaking at my drivers side front shaft. I have a strange feeling it might be my caliper is leaking or something. Damn, just something else to replace I suppose. Makes sense since my brakes felt really weak so I wouldn't be surprised if I only have one brake working. I gotta find a shop that's open nights/wkends to press on bearings.

Edit: I am curious if maybe my D30 axle seals are shot. god damnit. time to go clean everything off and see if the leakage comes back
2 things: probably the axle shaft seal and what does the fluid smell like? you just had them geared and it's real easy to screw up a seal when installing the axle shaft, especially if they're already old. i can do em in sub-45 mins. come down to my house one night this week and we'll bang the sumbich out.

my progress for the day:

  1. leave angle grinder at home because i'm working on my VW not my jeep
  2. work on VW
  3. need angle grinder
  4. call ken because he lives close and is kind
  5. grind bolt down
  6. take bolt out
  7. continue progress as normal

(all the old crap is out, new swaybar, control arm, ball joints, inner and outer TRE (both sides) are in. still need to torque everything and get the struts back in. should be done by early afternoon.)

carmelo, what days are you working this week? want to do an alignment?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i'm also fairly certain that a lot of the bolts i loosened today were stretch bolts. that's a damn shame. because they're going back in. i'll replace them if she clunks.

If you're available on a sunday it's very possible I can do one for a coffee or something. Do you remember what kind of adjustments you have. Is it all eccentric bolts or do I have to pry on a bunch of crap to get it in? Get my number and text me a reminder to ask my sunday manager about it.

oh damn, i was figuring late at night and i'd still pay. but for a coffee, i'm friggin there. unfortunately i was hoping to have it done by thursday afternoon. :(

adjustment is super easy, i just don't have the measurement tools. on the front you can adjust toe and on the back you can adjust camber via eccentric bolts. you can adjust camber on the front as well if we shift the subframe (which is currently not bolted in, so i would want to check that...) you're supposed to replace said stretch bolts, but i figure loctite will do fine for now. if it clunks i'll get new ones. if you can do it one night this week (tuesday or thursday would be XXXXing super :kissyou: i'll toss you an extra special tip)

Well that's what I was thinking. I spent a good 5 min smelling the stuff and it didn't smell like gear oil. I was thinking that maybe fresh gear oil doesn't smell like quite as much ass as used gear oil, but it did look/smell more like brake fluid... the weird part was that there was no fluid ANYwhere except on the bottom of the inner C and a bit on the tire.

The REAL strange part (which could be pure luck). I hopped in the Jeep and drove it for a mile around my street just to keep the gears oiled and turn them once in a while since I am not driving often. Decided to pull up the driveway and try to eyeball my steering parts and plan my trackbar location and such. I saw some leakage on the tire (where it would be if it had JUST leaked, right at the bottom). So I am figuring that either it is brakes or I just got lucky and the leak spot ended up at the bottom of the tire after my drive. For the past few weeks the jeep has been parked a bit off camber... so I cleaned off all fluid and parked it at more of an angle. If the leakage comes back then it's an axle seal and I will let you know. If it doesn't come back I will go for another couple drives around the street adn see if it's brake related.

Thanks for the offer though, I'll be sure to take you up on that at some point

melo- wait a couple of weeks and grab a cheap one at the huge parts swap meet in mansfiled

Nice, when is it?

Who has access/has a pipe bender and would like to help me make roof sliders like these http://www.hdoffroadengineering.com/collections/frontpage/products/xj-roof-sliders but I want them to wrap around the front instead of just ending.

it looks like that's a straight poop toob with some mounts welded to it. no need foh a bendah

gear lube: slimy no matter what
brake fluid: almost feels dry
dripping on your tire: classic sign of leaky seals (ask me how i know)
offer: no prob bob

no worries, i still havent got the motor on the stand i got 2 weeks ago:rof:

http://boston.craigslist.org/sob/tls/1676290106.html

Anyone near carver that can pick this up for me or have an engine stand near me I can borrow?
Edit: I may pick that up myself if you don't want it. Aka buy it and if you want it, well it's all yours.

I decided to pull the engine from the honcho and install some gaskets while it's out.
I am near enough to carver. If needed let me know and I can probably pick it up.

melo- wait a couple of weeks and grab a cheap one at the huge parts swap meet in mansfiled
Please provide details. I will be there with lots of vehicle space and [tax] $$.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

How much you want for it? Also what's it rating and does it spin?
it spins. weight rating: whatever you want it to be. (i honestly don't know. it was holding a big block v8 with no problems when i got it though.) i want minimal for it. if you can do my alignment free/cheap, you can have the stand.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Ross, let me know when that tool swap thingy is, I'll be down to go to that.

The Blairwitch has been renamed to the Blairbitch, because its a bastard.
When reconnecting battery, the alarm system goes off. Took me over 20 minutes to get the keyfob to work to shut it off, only to find out the battery didn't have enough juice to start it, and then it went back to flashing the alarm.
Took it for a drive to break in the brakes, got back to find out the battery was not just dead, it was bad, as I couldn't restart the car literally 10 seconds after I turned it off. 1 year old battery from red Jeep is in it.

I think I need to re-bleed the master or the entire system. It pulls to the left under heavy braking as well.

I was going to do it for free anyway. You bring me the stand and i'll pay for the coffee for my manager.
