THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

haha, I live on about 150 bucks a month for food. Fair enough on the RC fees, I didn't realize they were that high, every time I've gone there I was either riding in someone else's jeep or cutting a trail :dunno:
$150/month? You live on water, Ramen noodles, and turnips?
Unless they changed it since June it was something like $15 for the membership/year, plus $35/day for vehicle and driver. Plus a few extra bucks for each passenger.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Not quite water and turnips... cereal, PB&J, hotdogs, and hamburgers mostly. I buy what's on sale.

EDIT: oh yeah, free hawaiian punch at work, so I'm not scurvy-ridden

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I found 4wheelerssupply.com has superior 4.56 for the 8.25 for $212 and d30 for $188 and free shipping. So it'll $400 in gears, and I'll peice out an install kit at napa to save a couple of bucks. I just wish I could find a company that has 4.88 for the 8.25 for under $235. That's the cheapest I've found.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

You're going to want new shims... but yes, sounds like a plan to me.

If you want a non-staked nut for setting up the pinion shims on the d30, I had to buy a bag of 10 at fastenal while I was still planning on doing my own gears (before I bought an axle with them already installed.)

You're going to hate yourself if you do 4.56.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

4.88s is cheaper than 4.56s, 4.88s, and setting them up again

Interesting to find out Hawaiian punch solves scurvy issues.

While I had good like with 4WS (not to be confused with 4WP), I think especially D30 gears can be had much cheaper. Quick looking puts Motive Gear at about $130-140 for that axle. I'm going to sound like a broken record, but call around. :)

He speaks truth. The wife's rig will be on 33s and 4.88s and it'll be a street-only queen.

Yeah, by the time you peice everything out you might as well spend the $130 and get the master install.

I just bought an extra pinion nut for ~$2 and chased the threads with a tap. It cleared out the locking portion, used lube when putting it on and off every time, and I was set. I had that same problem locating that big a nut locally in stock.

Well said.

And that site has a package deal with master install kits, new carrier, and 4.88 for $588. Looks like a done deal to me.

100% vitamin C per 8oz glass, and that's way less than I go through... OH YEAH!

I'll have to check, but I'm pretty sure my Motive MIK came with Timken bearings.

I picked up that sack of 10 for $10 locally, fastenal is awesome (grainger didn't have it and clearly home depot didn't.) I figured 10 bucks wasn't a huge deal, and didn't have a 3/4 (or is it 7/8?) UNF tap on hand.

:yelclap:

I'm only going with 4.10s still because I got them for a fairly economical price, and I don't drive the XJ on the street that much anymore. If I regear it sometime in the distant future, it's going straight to 4.88s.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I think I want an aussie instead of a spartan. I had great customer service when my uncle and I called for out rear lockers. And they shipped them 2nd day for no extra charge. Not to mention they're somewhat local being in NY.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

4.88s with somewhere in the range of 31"-33" tires is nice :D Only got one drive in on them but I will leave it at: I can't wait to be able to actually push the Jeep a bit rather than just driving in a very "civilized" manner to break them in.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

gear talk sucks .!.:D.!.

if anyone ever bothers to regear, just go the deepest the axles will take.

oh yeah 14 bolts are mad easy to gear and setup, like MAD EASY!!!! :D
