THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

just had my phone interview with L-3 SSG in Wilmington, they do optics, telescopes and whatnot for various space and defense programs. seems like neat work, and even though under the L-3 "umbrella" it's really only like a 150 person company. I think it went well, they should be bringing me out for a face to face interview soon. If i do get that job, i'll be moving to southern NH fo sho, like Salem or something come September

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

mixed bag there, I haven't checked the ZJs for skids really, they have like 15 ZJs and 3 WJs right now though.

anyone on here interested in my dana 70 its a late 60's 23 spline vertion, shafts neck down to 1-3/8 will need new bearings and seals and inside of housing cleaned up make offers or it will go to the scrapyard, i dont know what it came out of, its 8 lug 65" wms and 4.88 gears
why are you getting rid of it? Didn't you just put a bunch of work into it?

this front bumper install should be fun, i have a feeling all the bolts are going to snap off.. what would be the best way to fix that? is there a welded nut inside the frame rail? was thinking about hammering them out, cutting a very small pocket in the "frame" and putting a wrench up there with a nut on the end of it, then closing the pocket back up..

good idea or no?

and the pitman arm is all good btw
front two bolts go into clip nuts, chop em off. rear bolt I think goes into a weldnut.

So just when I get doing all the stupid brake lines and just when I think I'm actually going to get finished on my Jeep, I go to bleed the system and one of the stupid f*cking bleeder valves on those stupid f*cking drum brakes snaps in half.

Too damn late to keep working on it, I have to get back up to Boston.
brakes are such fun aren't they? my MJ came stock with one bleeder twisted off and the other so rusted a wrench won't even stay on it.

yea

im runnin low on time

gas skid isnt needed

but im gonna hate life if i puncture the plastic tank

although i hear they hold up pretty well
I have a spare if you want, free, been punctured once, I patched it with a stainless steel bolt, nylock nut, 1/8" nitrile gaskets I made, and epoxy. Beat the crap out of it, puncture it, throw it out. I want it gone.

So it looks like 2.5 or 4.0 clutch master cylinders share the same part number.

Nice, looks like I'll be reusing that and bending up some new line
awesome! roll pins be damned

i hear of yous talking about this place all the time, and the internets won't give me any info on it

i needs a website

or location and hours

or location and phone number
if it's the same sam's I'm always running my mouth about, it's ~257 granite street in Worcester, not sure of phone number. Hours are 8-5 M-F 8-3 Saturday.

Words can not express how much I don't want to be at work right now, and how much I want to be back in bed.
Xamillion, I am very sore from all the stuff I got done

Transmission goes IN party1:

awesome. If you want another place to look that does neat optics crap, try headwall photonics in fitchburg, I'm not sure if they're hiring MEs though

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

you only get one body, and what's it worth to ya? i'd rather drop $400 on a helmet than $20k in hospital bills and end up a vegetable. just sayin. i'm not worried about my own riding ability getting in my way; i know my limits. i'm worried about the dumbass that doesn't see me.

Well there's a reason I am investing in riding gear this year... I plan on riding a bit more this year so gear will be purchased. I will be looking into a nicer helmet, but I think mine will do OK if needed. My buddy had a similar helmet to mine and his protected him when he wiped out a couple years back. Right now I am more in the market for pants/jacket (looking at a couple pieces of tour master gear right now, almost bought them last year but the old version had a few design flaws that I didn't like at all. Said flaws were fixed for this years stuff so I have no reason not to buy it). Once I get the rest of my gear (jacket/pants) I will start looking into helmet/boots.

I am hoping I can convince my mother to throw down some $$ towards a jacket. She was going to get me one for my birthday but was looking into leather stuff and I was not. I told her that I would do my own shopping since she knows nothing about what to look for in motorcycle gear (she agreed that was a good idea). Maybe if I come home with a jacket she will pay for it :dunno: would be nice.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

there's a lot of good stuff on clearance at newenough.com right now. if you never plan on riding in anything colder than 65*, they have some pretty sweet gear cheap right now.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

BADDD THOUGHTS!!! I'm actually considering ordering gears and not going to NACfest. There's no way I can afford to do both and I really need new gears.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

If I really manage to get this 4cyl turned into an air compressor/generator I may need to put an XJ/MJ header panel and grille on it (narrowed.) Anyone got a spare grille? I have a header panel I can use.

that makes me wonder how much NACfest costs :wierd:
Scott, you had a shop do your gears right?
yes, baystate. what you want to know?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

It's more of the money I'm losing taking the weekend off and then spending the gas money all the way down and back.

Did you have them buy the gears or did you bring it to them? And do you mind me asking how much it ran you?

Oh, ok, gotcha. Yeah the gas $$ will suck but I will probably use a couple of my vaca days for it since I haven't used one yet. By that time I will have over 2 wks plus 2 personal floating holidays. I think NACfest is a personal holiday :D

I had Bob buy the gears. And it was $500 labor per axle (axles in vehicle) or I think it's $400 if the axles are out of the vehicle, but don't quote me on the prices, they may change depending on what axle it is, etc... Overall I paid somewhere in the $1800 range (maybe $1850 or so :dunno:). That includes $500 per axle labor, gears front and rear, install kits front and rear, and a used truetrac front (I think I was charged somewhere around $200 for the truetrac).

Edit: And anthony, I checked out newenough and they seem to have the exact same prices on the tourmaster gear that I was looking at compared to the local shop. Since the prices are the same I will probably look local so I can avoid paying shipping (though I will get hit with tax). At least locally I can try stuff on and such before I pull the trigger an buy it. Will keep lookin around the site and may end up buying from newenough if the local shop doesn't have what I want in stock (last year I think I wanted a black jacket in XL but they only had red/blue in stock in the one I wanted or something... if that's the case I will buy online.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

My hands are shaking as we speak. I just bought the last of the items required for my swap tomorrow. I'm going to laugh so hard if this transmission blows up on start up. It would be totally still worth it.

Get the gears. NACFest if you don't go nuts doesn't cost all that much.

It's cheap. I think I spent more on gas down and back than everything else if you take out the two nights we ate out for dinner. Bring PB&J and some hot dogs. Eat at the campground and it'll be cheap.

Ahh... I see.

Keith, you did your lift right? Kill a weekend and do them yourself. If you've got some decent patience and know how to use a micrometer and vernier you can do it.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Oh geez, looks like I'll be taking the Jeep off the road for a weekend to figure out the front install. I'm crying over the just over $900 for the gears, install kits, and front locker.

X2. Cost me around 120 in gas for the full trip the weekend before last and I was STOMPING on the go pedal, at least on the way down. Add 30 bucks for food and money for RC/event fee and I think you will stay under 200 no problem.

I'm sure I can do it, I've done the rear before. I've just never taken apart a d30. I thought I read somewhere you need a case spreader?:dunno: the rear wont take long at all since I made that adjuster tool. I just don't want to blow up $190. Atleat the 30 gears are cheaper than the 8.25 gears.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I've pulled apart two 30s... you can do it without a case spreader. Putting it together, maybe not. But you can build a case spreader... you have a welder right? If you don't I do, buy the bar stock and we'll throw one together.

Even with the high dollar 4.88s I just priced out a little over $850 for master installs, gears, and D30 lock right. So you are about right.
To bad I don't work on D30s.... :D

Gonna need more than $30 for just RC fees and I know Keith isn't a bodybuilder, but unless he eats like a mouse $30 isn't going to last all of NACFest. :D

You don't need a case spreader. I've done a more than a few axles now and they've all been done without a spreader. Once you get the trick to removing the carrier out your golden. Heck, I just did the gears in my HP D60 this weekend and with setup bearings I could go from ready to rock, to swap out the inner pinion shim, back to ready to go in about 30-35min by myself. Not to bad I don't think. It took me all day to get the thing locked and geared with a pattern that was spot on, but worth it in the end.

Yeah, I was hoping for it to be a bit less than that (not much less though, I was hoping maybe $1500, which would have been about right w/o the truetrac) but when I got the bill it was a bit too late to say anything :laugh3:

I will be installing my gears in my next set of axles when I go to full width 9"/HP44 or 1-tons. I just wanted to pay to get these ones done right asap. When I build my next axles I will be taking my time with them. Right now I just want to get wheeling so I paid to get it done. Now that I paid to get it done the Jeep is sitting unused still due to lack of brakes and steering :banghead: Got all the stuff for brakes (other than a press for the bearing) and almost all the stuff for steering so I am getting there.

haha, I live on about 150 bucks a month for food. Fair enough on the RC fees, I didn't realize they were that high, every time I've gone there I was either riding in someone else's jeep or cutting a trail :dunno:
