Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

There's people who build huge barn garages in their yards then rent the top part out as an apartment.

Buy land.

Build 4 car garage

Live in "second floor apartment"

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i feel weird buying a single wrench, but i needed it and couldn't justify dropping the coin on the whole set at the time. the funds just weren't there. i bought just the 5/16 (driveshaft bolts) and 9/16 and both have been a life saver.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

The other thing about buying a wreck of a house is that it usually comes with utility hookups. Don't forget that it'll cost 6-10k just getting a sewer betterment, nevermind water/gas/electric hookups...

50k for land, foundation, frame, sewer betterment, water/electric/gas hookups vs...
50-60k for land (land's worth more empty than with a crappy house on it these days)
25k for foundation
dunno, 15k for frame, probably more
7k for sewer betterment
say 1k for water/electric/gas even though it'll be way more

So I'm just looking for a piece of land I like, with a foundation that's about big enough for a house I want, with a solid framed house that's mostly the shape I want on it.

EDIT: same on wrenches, I actually have the same two extras Anthony has. 9/16 was for my gas tank bolts, 5/16 for the driveshaft bolts. Then I got the whole set because it was the only way I could get a 1/4" ratcheting wrench.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Buying one wrench is like going to the deli and asking to purchase only enough turkey to make one sandwich.

have you ever used a lb of meat in a single sandwich? :chef:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Then if I buy them in SAE I HAVE to buy them in metric. That's another $100. Then I'll feel weird not having a decent regular length set, metric and standard.. Another $200, then I'll obviously want the XL sets because their awesome and that's another $400. Crap, I don't have $800!

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I have :eyes:

well I sorta snacked on bits of it till it was only half a pound, then decided I really should just get around to making myself a sandwich...

EDIT: cmelo, yeah, I try to stay out of sears for that reason unless I'm on a mission and thus in too much of a hurry to get stuck there.

The only impulse purchase I am really glad of was my sawzall. That thing is a lifesaver... hell a few more trips with it and it'll pay for itself! People keep paying me to cut things off for them at the junkyard.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

The non flex head set is $60, but flex head is so awesome...

I dont even know if i'll even need a flex head 9/16 though. I've never pulled the transmission on my truck. I just no it will probably be cramped and the bolts are 9/16 :dunno:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

If today was tuesday, that would be awesome.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Grinding shafts for full circles tonight. Cutting up a travis driveshaft. What else... what else...

Stop crying.

We didn't need no stubby 9/16" to do the t-case in your XJ, and I've never used one to pull a t-case out and I can still have one out fairly fast. What makes you think you NEED a flex head.

Save your money for tons

I used a ratcheting wrench for about 10 seconds untill I realized my bolts were far to rusty and I couldn't get leverage. So I broke out a long extension and rachet.

I already said this is my ideal plan/situation. Maybe I should talk to a guy I know who used to do construction and see what he says he thinks something like that would cost.... hmmm

I brought both my batteries fully charged to multiple JYs last wkend and no one paid me to cut anything :(

I am starting to wonder if my XT350 runs off 6V or 12V. If 12 I wonder how much juice it puts out. If it puts out a decent amount I wonder if a JY would let me ride it into the yard and use the engine as a generator :gee: Would be perfect, get a power inverter ride the bike right up to the car, make some custom "saddle bags", i.e. racks that go on the rear to hold tools/parts.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Do you want to ride it into the yard?

Hope you have roadside hazard insurance on those tires...

Yes ride it into the yard. the are tubed dirtbike tires. Worst comes to worst I have to swap a new tube in though I am fairly confident I could get into and out of a yard w/o popping one.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I would not want to do that personally... way too much random junk on the ground, screws/nuts/bolts/bits of cut metal/glass etc.

Checked the rear driveshaft on a ford exploder yesterday, it looks like they have the same kind of flange at both ends, now it makes sense to me why everyone does a hack-n-tap with that flange. Anyone know where I can get a flange like that which will mate with the 231 output shaft? I'd rather not break the bank, i.e. nothing more than 80 bucks or so. If it costs more than that I'll just go with my original plan, but I really like how much stronger the explorer shaft seems.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

A big difference at that. Eyesight isn't worth the money saved in the long run.

Agreed.

Mine doesn't get throw around either.
You'll probably laugh, but I wax mine with liquid auto wax (not the lens). Keeps it nice and for the most part the welding "extras" wipe right off. As with any mask your bound to get something that really scars the surface, but the wax helps 90% of it. 15min of work and it looks like new again.

Welding extras? What are those? No need to deal with that with TIG... :D
