THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Not every, but any drain plug that got stripped out... the rubber + wingnut contraption is known as a "last chance plug".

EDIT: Scott, bolts are measured by major diameter, ie a 1/4-20 will fit cleanly down the center of a 1/4 ID tube. Pipe threads are a whole 'nother ballgame. You want to find minor diameter.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Is a bolt (or TRE in this case) measurement taken from the inside of the thread or the outside?
...neither.

let's take a nice normal size that everyone can picture: 1/2-13.

the threads are 1/2" nominal dia and have 13 tp. rule of thumb for the tapped dia is nominal - 1/pitch. you will always find that the tap drill size is a bit smaller than the nominal size. the tap drill for 1/2-13 is 27/64 which is .423". the nominal - 1/pitch forumla yields .421. the difference is half the thickness of a can of coke, so you're good to go.

pipe threads are conical. whole different ball game.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

And also, does anyone have the JKS (or similar) OTK 1-ton steering? If so do you have a rough idea of how long the tie rod and drag link will need to be?

You dont need much. jsut over 2 ft for the draglink and just over 4 ft for the tierod IIRC. i think thats how much we used on colins steering.

oh yeah, VW's can suck my left testicle...friggin 17mm lug bolts and 19mm drain plugs...

im with adam

Caddy Catera takes the cake for the worst drain plug: T40.

how about round ones that use vise grips?

is that how they fixed every drain plug? with that stupid rubber plug?

JB WELD!!!!

Scott, i was wrong about the tube size. 1.25" OD .281" wall is the correct size to be tapped for 3/4". Everything you want to know about what to do for youre steering is here:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yeah... looking at pipe thread stuff confused me a decent amount. Seems I was wrong on the diameter to get for the tap drill, I find it amusing that we used the same phrase concerning pipe threads though.

EDIT: I think the drag link is more like 3 feet long really, 2 feet is barely enough to make it to the steering stabilizer mount

EDIT2: vvv most likely, if anthony says I'm wrong on something I probably am vvv

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

So from the sounds of it what ken said is wrong? I just got super confused for a second.. unless I am still confused then it's been much longer than a second :wierd:

BS. it might even be under 2 ft.

wms on a 30 is 60" so look to have your tie rod around 54"

Hmmm, that's rather odd. I think part of the difference is that the stock one has the built in TRE at the knuckle end, which I was counting into the length, as well as the fact that it's got male threads rather than female threads for the adjuster. Other than that, I can't account for it, so I'm probably wrong. DEFINITELY wrong as far as amount of tube required is concerned.

[pic deleted]

FWIW my drag link will be longer than that one, but not by much. as it stands I am planning on using a 2034R at the tie rod end of the drag link unless I run into clearance/binding issues between my tie rod and drag link which I heard that I shouldn't. That looks like a 2026R at the tie rod end of drag link. The 2026R is longer... but close enough :)

Tis true. but that steering setup could be used for crossover :greensmok

I only got 2034s for both ends becaue the 2034s were on sale for just under $10 while the 2026 was full price at $30. If I have clearance issues between drag link and tie rod I am going to buy a 2026, ream out the hole a bit more (to fit the 2026), and get the drag link cut however much shorter is needed.

And that pirate thread left me wondering wtf to get still. yeah it said that the 1.25 OD with .281 wall was right for a 3/4" rod end... I'm just hoping Anthony is right. I may end up getting 1.375 OD with 2.50 wall. If I can tap a .875 ID tube to accept a .875 rod end that might work best... idk. I can't tell if the 1.25 OD would still work for me at 7/8" TREs or if I shoudl go bigger. Most people running TREs in that thread seemed to be running the threaded tube adaptors if they did TREs

wth, the first time i looked at page 1 all the pics were missing so i couldnt tell who was doing what. Now I can see better. awesome

Edit: Damn, I don't wanna pay for 4130   I guess if that's what I gotta do then I'll do it though.

Either that or maybe I will just do the weld in inserts or .01.375x.250 wall.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

still at woooooork!

I love it when people dump tasks I absolutely hate on me at the last minute, forget that I don't actually have the equipment to get them done right now and will have to pull all kinds of strings, and want it done by the end of the day.

These six failing tests can go to hell.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

damn i'm bored / antsy. maybe i'll actually be ambitious and go to the gym! holy shit

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I felt like xmas was coming up when I read that all my parts and stuff I ordered would be in on thurs/fri. I felt like xmas was coming more than when xmas was actually coming. haha

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

haha last week was great, I literally got a shipment of something every single day, even friday when I didn't expect to.

Monday - Crown order came a day early
Tuesday - new crappy digicam
Wednesday - first half of RockAuto brake parts order
Thursday - second half of RockAuto brake parts order arrived before I even left for work
Friday - inline oiler for my A/C to OBA conversion on the MJ arrived well before I expected it to

Friday/Saturday - actually got a ton of jeep work done for once
