THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Scott - maybe, I gotta figure out if I want to screw around with them that much. I am looking for two sets right now, one to replace my tweaked up broken crappy ones on my XJ and one to put on the MJ.

Jon - hmm, considering

Still at work...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I have a caliper, my uncle has a dial indicator (though not sure I could that anytime soon)

What for?

Front and rear end play check of my transmission. I could slap it all back together as is since the one i'm pulling apart was rebuilt I think. I'm starting to wonder if it would be totally thrown off by putting it into a completely different case though? Shit.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

carmelo what do you need it for?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

think of history class...who payed for the ships to travel to No. America??? The King!!!
Yup, which is one reason Kingston in each state is fairly close to the coast.

On a side note I havent looked at plymouth/duxbury/kingston bays and plymouth harbor in ages on google maps. Its crazy how clear it is, can see the fawking waves from space. I love technology, I still find it crazy what we can do sometimes. haha

carmelo what do you need it for?

End play check on the transmission(s) for my honcho. I need to check the original front and rear end play then check again after it's put together to make sure it's right. For whatever reason up until now I failed to think of this. I'm hoping I can pull off rebuilding this transmission with the $27 i've spent so far. Even if I have to add shims I could use old ones...

Take your time considering. I will have them around for a good while. I have one good pair that are going on the XJ when I get it back (not rusty, black bezel, etc). I got 2 other pairs that I planned on using to clean up and paint or just use for parts. So yeah, they will be here. I don't need 600W of long range lights on my Jeep... or do I :eyes:

I wonder if there is any good high temp chrome paint that I could paint the reflector with... I spent a few hours brushing down the reflector since it had some rust bubbles and got all the crap off them. I put a couple coats of primer on just to see how smooth I could get them. I am torn between trying to get a smooth coat of primer and see how a chrome paint works.. or cleaning all the primer off and bringing them down to see if I could get them powder coated for somewhat cheap.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha I wish!

Nope, I'm a salaried enginerd and not working for the defense industry. That means I work as many hours as I need to to get the job done on time, for one set price... and my team is about 15-25% understaffed right now. Aside for a week or two ago when I got a reprieve for a while, I've been doing 60 hour weeks for months.

The perk is that while stuff is just chugging away and I'm not figuring something else out, I can surf the web... and soak up every last bit of XJ info I can find.

EDIT: the MSRP on a new AW-4 torque converter is 1200 dollars!:shocked::shocked::shocked::shocked: I'm glad I got my remanufactured one for 160 including core

Damn!

Glad I don't have one of those things :D

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm going to need vernier caliper and a dial indicator soon and I dont have the money for a good one. Any one local to me have one?

i have a dial indicator you could probably borrow, my dad gave it to me when i originally thought of doing my own gears but time / space restraints and i just had them done. i have verniers too, but they're legit verniers and old as XXXX. at least they're not like the digital ones in the machine shop at work that blow monkey dick

YA BEEATT!

no that sucks though, but maybe if you spent more time on work instead of surfin :NAXJA: you could go home at a decent hour :D

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Partially :dunno: but a lot of the time when I'm on here it's because I'm sick and tired of watching a test run counter tick up from 0 to ~30k in one second increments. Can't wait till we actually get real chips made of this design and I get to write tests and run them on those at ~3GHz instead of watching the same damn thing simulate at a whopping 1Hz.

EDIT: and yeah... we can't make it go any faster really. This simulation is about 3 billion transistors in one huge circuit...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

My day:

-recovered from drinking green beer
-got CDL permit
-pulled header panel/DS fender/DS door on red jeep
-gusseted and welded up the door hinges
-bought new laptop

Anyone know of any good how-to's on electroplating? I know how to use electrolysis to remove rust but I feel like I have heard it's possible to use electroplating to coat an item with another metal. I.e. I could use a piece of [pure] silver or aluminum and coat the light reflectors with it.

You gotta polish the base metal very well first, and make sure it's absolutely clean. There are also certain metals that won't plate onto other metals and you need to come up with a sequence of platings that will result in each metal bonding to the ones before and after it. I did some copper plating once and it sucked, it was very difficult to get it to stick.

You also need a high current, low voltage power supply and a lot of harsh chemicals, which depend on what metals you're plating.

Red jeep is gettin is an overhaul :greensmok

fixing door hinges right now, gunna buy the magnaflow and new exhaust piping this weekend, found a 242 for sale, gunna get an 8.8/leafs/etc at the all you can carry, now that its warm howie will put the glass in the hatch

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I want to watch that 8.8 carry. What gears are you looking for in it?

Are you doing any scouting trips? I'm planning one tomorrow, I want to pull a ton of turbos and see if I can't find a rim I'm looking for to complete a set before the vultures descend. I know you guys pulled the 14bolts you got in advance last fall.
