THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

steve, i'm at work. having a real job is a mixed and sometimes unfortunate blessing. i do think it's in portsmouth, NH, right? if it's portsmouth RI i could do it :gee: but i think i'd already know about that.
I figured you had normal hours. I remember those days.
I used to have a normal houred job in Salisbury MA about 15 min away from this place. My friend lived up there, so he knew about it from the locals.
funny thing is, ive been going to Hampton Beach all my life, and just found this place 3 years ago.Its really amazing.
I found the communication bunker, located away from the main bunker, because when those huge guns fired, it would make alot of vibrations that would mess up the electronics.
good stuff.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'd go if I hadnt made plans with some people that are home for spring break. I was actually thinking about bringing them to Portsmouth for lunch too. Although I'm sure they would want to go to Fort Dearborne, it's one of the feild trips we were supposed to go on in highschool that got rained out... Or I used as an excuse to skip school. One of the two.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'd be in for that but I bet you guys want to go during the day...

Also, wow! Check out the underground section, "little river" is something I found on my own about halfway through high school, I grew up in Haverhill.
remind me of Stephen Kings "It".
Creepy.
I'd like to go there.

And yeah, day is best because the park gates supposedly close at night, although ive never seen them close.

Edit: That bridge looks cool to. That site is altogether pretty cool.
there is soo many places i need to check out.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

For most of my time in high school the bridge next to it was under construction, I lived up the hill on the Bradford side right across rt125 and worked at the Valvoline over on River Street so before it closed I would ride my bike across it. Then most of high school the bridge was closed and either torn down or being rebuilt so I spent a lot of time after hours exploring the underside of the temporary bridge they had up for the construction cranes to use.

I used to go roller skating at the place right next to that bridge when I was a kid, they took a huge hit in traffic when the bridge closed for construction.

If you go with a guide, they let you into the smaller sentry buildings.
But they dont bring you into the creepy main bunker.
The beach is about 200' ft from it too, with a pretty cool jetty Ive mountain biked across.

This place is amazing too.
Built 5000+ years ago when the glaciers receded,by unknown people(celtic-ish people prob) and used by American Indians for thousands of years.
The most amazing part is the solar and lunar alignments it has scattered all around the site.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yeah I've been to the Stonehenge a dozen times and it's pretty cool. I love going to places like that, but I love being outdoors too.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

This place is about 2 miles from me.
Been there when it was open(vague memories) and many times after.
Even wheeled there with my old YJ when it was still legit.
Right now you can legally walk in there, they have been restoring the buildings to preserve the history. Its been cleared of the overgrowth and all the walkways and paths are passable now.

Best day evar! Going to the junkyard for a KJ window and getting paid to do it! Going to look for some disc brakes and a front shaft while I'm at it.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

steve, i've driven by that place. it is pretty neat and i've wanted to stop by, but i never had my camera or any spare time.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

let me know when you want to come down. weekdays i can get there by 4pm and with daylight savings time, that would give us plenty of time to walk around.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

wow, just got kicked out of the office... time to work from home I guess. They emailed everyone this morning and are turning power off to the building in half an hour to do electrical work, wish I'd known this 4 hours ago.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

ken, that's weird. do you get to use free leave? i'd go work on my jeep in daylight and do work at night if you have to.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I wish I was getting kicked out of the office. I was super productive this morning though, got almost all of my sh*t done. Then I went to my 11AM meeting..

I'll leave it at this...

last night myself and the FA director and others were discussing a proposal before it was distributed. One comment to the guy who was sending it was "hope you have a bullet proof vest :)". Some jokes then circulated about that with the result being that I would be the first person discussing the topic with the customer so I was the one who was SOL. Let's leave it at the phrase "don't shoot the messenger" comes to mind right now. Damn that sucked.

Oh... and I was also the one who broke the news to my customer that their boss had made a decision (which apparently they didn't agree with). So I got chewed because THEIR BOSS made a decision and neglected to inform them of it.:flamemad:

Sometimes I hate my job. Other times I realize why I have already been seeing gray hairs coming in.

EDIT: also I haven't been moderated yet iirc, quite honestly I'm surprised
