THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i want to buy another stocker 97+ xj and give it to jenn. she said she'd drive a stock xj. when she's not looking one day, i'll lift id :D

sweet. Mia used to want a Jeep... she's now convinced that I spend plenty on my own, and she doesn't need one; she'll just ride along in mine instead. Works for me, cause I don't have to be fixing her Jeep, just my own!

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

well, my reasoning for getting jenn a xj: i know how to fix it, parts are dirt cheap, they get good enough gas mileage when they're stock.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yeah, I agree... butttt She has spoken. So that's that.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

anyone got acsess to a lathe and can cut don some 60 stubs for me and make new groove for snap ring? unless i get some alloy usa stubs

i probably could go into work an hour or two early one day and do that, what exactly needs to get done? my workstudy is in a machine shop after all, although the lathes there kinda suck and I dont know how to run the CNC lathe

if i buy 35 spline dana 70 stubs for my 60 they need to be shortend 0.600" and have the groove for the snap rind machined in

doesn't seem too unreasonable, although grabbing the shaft might be tough by the ears. how big / deep is the snap ring groove?

i honestly have no idea im just gathering stuff from the 60 bible

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

ah. i'm not sure if machining the shafts would have any negative consequences on the heat treatments of the shafts. every shaft we worked with at my first co-op at Pollak was heat treated very specifically. we did a lot of experimentation with different heat treatments, each of which had a big affect to the overall strength / fatigue properties. we would maybe have to find out how deep the hardened shell on the shaft is, since machining the snap ring groove past that depth may make that a severe weak point even more so than direct stress concentration

Anthony - I'm cleaning my apartment and I keep tripping on this dryer power cord, it's a 3 prong 30 amp plug, want it for making a welder extension cable or no? yours free I just need to know whether it goes on the pile for NAC-express or the pile for the scrapper

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

alot of peaple do it for the ford 60's with no bad results

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

ill be doin it if i get stocker 35 stubs or for spares. chop saw/grinder/hacksaw for the .600" and some filing or a skilled grinder hand could easily make the groove

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

yeah it kinda looks like the groove was machined after hardening in these 35 spline d60 shafts

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Isn't that groove well past the point where the axle strength is important and more into the part where it's just holding the snapring?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

With flanges it can even become a useless point since the flange will retain the stub. Yes some flanges do this better then others depending on machining and clearence inside the cap.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

just stick the money in your savings account and forget about it. I wish I had done that a lot more over the last year and a half.

On that note... I've been awake since 11am yesterday, it's about time I hit the sack

I say that all the time. But that is NOT FUN! :D I always tell myself tax returns should be like a gift to myself. Yeah I could save that gift and put it towards a house or just spend a somewhat small amount of it on something completely unnecessary. I like that 2nd idea myself. So far that's what I have always done... something I would normally say "woudl be nice" to but this time around I actually spend some of my tax $$ on it. Except last year... tax money went straight to my bills... Damn unemployment. But i digress

In all reality I am not depositing a paycheck until I get my next check on sat. This way I look at my accnt now and see a low balance and say "oh fawk I need to stop spending so much" then I put 2 paychecks in next wkend (as well as tax returns if i get them by then) and feel better with ALOT more padding on my accnt.

But a short throw shifter would be real nice I think.. Almost thinking it's worth the $$

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

just spent like four hours takin the old rear axle out, and putting the new one it. (ya it took a while cuz the center pins for the leaf springs broke so had to buy some new ones and throw them in.) got everything together, started to bleed the brakes and one started pissing fluid out of it
:rattle:

then to make matters worse the hard line wouldnt come out of the soft then it snapped, so went to take the spare off the old axle, that snapped too... off to napa in the a.m. to get brake lines

on that note does anyone know how the fawk you make the ebrake work with zj disks?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

alright been sifting through posts for the past two hours or so.. for those who have done the ZJ disk swap is it possible to hook up the e-brake w/o the dust shield? using the "loop method." and also wtf do i need for the parking brake assembly pads hardware kit anything else im missing?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm so far behind in this thread I'm not even going to try and keep up. Anything posted since Friday I haven't/will not read.
If I missed something important PM me. Thanks. :)

The backing plate / dust shield is all one assembly (two pieces). Without the shield you won't be able to retain the pads for the parking brake.
You'll need:
- backing plate / dust shield assembly
- parking brake shoes
- parking brake spring, adjuster and pin kit
- rotors
- loaded calipers
