time to call insurance... glad I parked my jeep right outside my window, because just as I got in bed last night I heard some retarded kid back into it and smash both fog lights. Watched him for a few seconds, he pretended he didn't notice (you didn't hear a loud crunch resonate through the frame of your vehicle? right) and started walking away till I opened the window and yelled "HEY WHAT THE F***" then he said "I so sorry about that" about 50 times and then stood by his car staring up at my window for about 10 minutes after I went back inside... doing nothing, just staring up at it. Creepy as hell.

I want Sam's MJ...

But it's 2.5 AX4 2WD.

Should I buy it and swap in 4.0 (OBD-I aka whole harness)?

Assuming he sells it to me.

Oh and the body is close to mint.

Why?

I think if I get an engine-side 4.0 renix harness it plugs right into the bulkhead connector from what I've researched.

Or I can pull the harness out of an OBD-I XJ and plug it into the MJ body. That wouldn't involve any splicing or anything.

That was my original plan for an MJ except I was going to make it an OBD-I stocker for DD'ing...

its like... the slowest car i've ever driven. and last i knew some kid in our club (sisoffroad) was trying to buy it, but hasnt pushed too hard about it.

oh my name is this fancy color now.

Colin, if it's a 90 or before, your VSS + speedo setup is gonna be more complicated than plugging it in, the 90- model years used a mechanical speedo cable while the 91+ use electronic. Probably other stuff too but that's the first thing that comes to mind.

EDIT: I was gonna say, when did you go red? :thumbup:

Colin, if it's a 90 or before, your VSS + speedo setup is gonna be more complicated than plugging it in, the 90- model years used a mechanical speedo cable while the 91+ use electronic. Probably other stuff too but that's the first thing that comes to mind.

So there's a few ways to do this...

I could throw whatever 4.0 in it and grab a renix 4.0 engine bay harness and plug it into the bulkhead connector at the firewall, use renix sensors, and be good to go (according to research).

I could throw 4.0 HO in it and pull the entire HO harness (engine bay and interior - fuse block, guages, etc) and swap it all over to the MJ. This would solve that issue of the VSS+speedo setup and give me OBD-I.

Yeah that's what Sam was saying, if the other kid wasn't interested he'd offer it to me. I hate the idea of wheeling a 4-banger (read no balls).

the truck itself is pretty miny phresh inside and out otherwise. its just sitting in front of his house surrounded by cherokees that get driven every day hahaha

Yep. I'd probably do the latter - make sure you get the harness with all the options you want (I forget if you like power mirrors/locks/windows/whatnot, there's a harness or two you need to grab if you want those to work.) The former will work I'm sure, but I like the way OBD I/II log issues so you can retrieve them at a later time.

I've never actually seen an XJ/MJ with the "4 angry squirrels" engine, only YJs/TJs. I guess I just haven't seen enough of em yet...
