Just make sure you get negative/positive right and hope that the laptop doesn't talk to the power block via some stupid data line in the connector (believe me, I've seen it.)

Thats what I figured. I wasnt too worried about the half volt since I know even laptops are powered by 12v so the extra voltage was just to charge the battery faster. I was going to do it if you didnt respond anyway. I am no electrical expert but I have the basics down enough I think.

Yeah, you got it just fine. The 20 volts thing actually really pisses me off, they do it to save on wire and make the traces narrower on the PCB, internally the laptop itself uses an SMPS (Switching-mode power supply) to convert the 20V input down to 10.8V, 12V, whatever the battery pack charges at. And none of the companies can agree on voltage (as you noted) I've seen anything from 19 to 21 in half-volt increments. If they'd standardize on one connector and one voltage (or one connector per current rating, and one voltage) it'd do us all a lot of good.

The way I have it set up I don't have to worry about them both going active at the same time, I'm more concerned about one staying active for an extended period of time if it is connected to a 12V source. and i got to thinking about the ratings for the 741 and also found they are only rated down to 32*F so I think I may just limit the current with a resistor. That's all I should really need to do. I just don't want to have a feedback loop with nothing limiting current.

I'd use an LM555 (or if you need two of them, an LM556) and some resistors/capacitors plus a driver transistor or two. Set them up in one-shot mode, then you'll always get a set-width lock/unlock pulse no matter how long the button is held down for.

I think we are talkign about two different uses. and the more I think about it the relay itself may have enough internal resistance to solve all my problems...

Edit: I just redrew the whole thing using a few NPN driving circuits and it does seem like it will be more stable to work with. Guess I will pick up a small project box to get all this all wired up in. Def not complaining since 15 transistors are less than $3. Not like I'm breaking the bank here or anything. Actually save myself $$ by not getting the LM741

And, I do have A pinion yoke... but I'm not sure if its off an 8.25 or a d44 :laugh3: If anyone knows the difference, and it turns out the one I have is for a 44, you're welcome to have it. But I'm sure you can get a new one for cheap thru Jeff, regardless...

he smallest Magnaflow cat I've been able to find is still 4" in its smallest dimension. Sure it accepts 2.5" tube, but it is still large.

frog was at the butterfly place too. they had a room with other unique animals in their own tanks. there were some other things but we had to get going. shooting through glass sucks.

anybody have aphone number for jeff?? and im assuming he works at 4x4 replacement parts in westport?

im gonna try and stop down today i just wanna see if they have what i need in stock
