THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

He's right Bill, it's only about 1.5" shorter...forgot about that.

I still think it would work for you though right? I think its about 29.25" collapsed for a 4.0/AX-15 shaft.

wtf is DSS?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Reading the catalog, it's 30.66" collapsed for an AW-4, 29.25" for an AX-15. If you need one about 3" shorter, take a look around for a 2.5L Turbo (diesel?!)/AX-15 front shaft, that's 27.64". A few other stock shafts would work but they appear to only be available from the south american XJ models with the front 44. Looks to me like your best bet is going to be cutting one down or finding a completely different vehicle to use as a donor.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Too bad you're so far away. I has one.:thumbdn:

Take a road trip :D

OMG is this going to be the first tool Colin will have to buy!?

Nope, I'll find someone with it. I don't plan on taking the thing back off anytime soon.

nope, his dad has 12 pt. shallow 1/2" drive metric sockets.... that's about it!!!

FIFY

Colin sucks.

Are you home douchebag? I need someone to step on my brake pedal so I can squirt brake fluid into my eyes.

I want this job.

It might, I'd have to check. Might be better really as the stock shaft only has 3" of slip which in itself might not be enough.

Did you see my edit?

wtf is DSS?
You'd know if you didn't drive a car that belongs on the west coast driven by a man in short rainbow shorts. :D

Darin's Steering Stabilizer. Or Dodge Steering Stabilizer. People call it different things.

Basically, it's a crossmember that adds a support bearing to the steering box sector shaft underneath the pitman arm. They tend to wear out because of the ridiculous weight in the front end of these things, especially when the track bar goes out.

Keep in mind, a lot of the 4-cyl or other shafts tend to be a LOT smaller.

Similar to the size of the Carmelo's Honcho's stock front dshaft. Size of a toothpick.

You home? I'm leaving now to get all this hair I have on my head chopped off. Give me a call and i'll stop by after. Other wise I'm just going to let it gravity bleed out and hope it's good:thumbup:

Nope, not for another like 8 or 9 hours.

Call my gay sibling. He's probably around.

Not too mention harder to find. Also I broke my front shaft by just stomping on it. Unless Bill intends to drive like a bitch that simply wont do. Best bet is to probably shorten a stock one. The come apart pretty easy with a chop say and it's super easy to keep true since it just slides back into the flange. As long as you weld it up neatly(we're talking about bill here) it won't even need to be balanced. CJ guys use xj shafts all the time(to replace the pencil dick stock ones.)

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

colin, i think they make something like that for the XJ too, right? good luck getting it installed and crap.

anyone have a 231 with a stretched chain/blown output that they want to get rid of cheap?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Nope, but if the trail cutting actually happens, I can pick that 231 up from MrSimon. I'm pretty sure he'll be there too.

Similar...though not like what I have.

Well I don't want to use a toothpick shaft. Basically at full bump the shaft I have now (stock auto) is fully collapsed and about 3/8" to long.
Given that, I think the ~1.5" shorter would be a better bet, but looking at my driveshaft last night it only has ~3" of slip, I'm not sure that will be enough with the travel I've got. Once I get the axle back underneath I'll look into this more. I might not be able to use a stock shaft anyway for that reason.

I don't intend to drive it gently. :)
I think you are right, I'll just cut down the stocker and stop wasting time looking for something else. Mine is in excellent shape.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

colin: ah, my B. that looks like it basically gives the bottom of the shaft another bearing. cool.

bill: i'm glad you decided to cut yours down.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

pickin up a dana300 tonight

can't wait to put it in my jeep

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

sam, you won't want to. he said something with the shifting is frozen and won't budge. i don't need to run it yet. i'll just let it all soak in PB for now then replace all the seals when i tear into it...
