THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

yeah, not looking forward to insuring both the MJ and the XJ.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

ZOMG! My buddy moved out to the "woodlands" in TX, just outside of Houston. I am literally trying to get transferred down there now. I just did a search on houses and realized that I could live up here in MA for a few years and put away all the $$ that I make... then after a few years of that I could move to TX and buy a beautiful house with large yard, 2 car garage, maybe a pool, nice patio, etc... for like $130k TOPS (or even as low as $75k). If I lived up here and saved up I could move down there and drop a huge down payment on a place. Damn. I wish property here in MA was that cheap. I am looking at run down shacks here in MA and I could be looking at 1200-2300 sq ft places in great shape down there (with land and garages).

And those prices are for houses that look like they are in great shape (compared to what I have seen up here)... if I wanted a fixer-up type place it would be even less

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

it cost me like 20 bucks more a month when i threw my mj on my insurance

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Mass apparently is different... they insure the vehicle(s) not the driver :dunno: at least so I've heard.

I think I'm gonna keep the MJ *mostly* stock, just fix it up and make it a decent DD + junkyard parts carrier. Fixing it up right is gonna involve frame stiffeners and rock rails though since 2-3 feet or so of the frame and all of the rockers are shot to hell from rust.

I only read the first few line and got bored but, what about the work down there? Is there a lot down there, will you make as much working there? The cost of living may be cheaper than MA but you might also not get paid as much. Granted if you can pay a lot of the house off with the cash you save up here you'll be a little better off than some of them or how you are here, but it might not be that much.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Part of me would love to go into work earlier, but that in turn would require me waking up earlier, which means I need to pass out earlier... and that just won't happen because I can never get myself to go to sleep at a reasonable time. I have been better lately :) I have myself down from 12:30-1AM to about 11:00-11:30PM... trying to get myself into passing out around 10:30-11... We will see how that works :laugh3:

i aim for 10 pm. and if i'm in bed by 11 i'm doing well :gee:

Bring it to a radiator shop and see if they can braze/solder the hole, I've heard of people having good luck with that.

32 million? holy christ, I wish I knew what that was now.

Agreed, I just find motivation to get up very difficult in the winter. In the summer I'm up and awake by 0630.

1. why not do it yourself? it's easy enough. i've brazed before, but never on something that thin...

2. haha, can't tell you. but it's really not as cool as 32 million sounds.

3. my motivation is seeing sunlight during the afternoon. if i get to work at 0645 i get out at 1515. i like getting out at 1515. it's really the lesser of 2 evils. i'd rather be tired at work (and working), while burning through my 8 hours for the day than tired at home and still have to do my 8 hours later.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Agreed on the sunlight during the afternoon. I can't wait till it's summer and light out till 9, then I can wake up at some ridiculously early hour, get to work a bit later, get home in the afternoon and do a huge amount of work on the jeep... instead of getting home in the dark and cold and just saying screw it and going inside.

EDIT: I've never brazed before, but from what I've been told, it's just like high temperature soldering... and I've been soldering for 14 years now.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

that's always nice too.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

texas is the home of the playas and pimps
Then I'd fit right in :greensmok

My buddy moved down there and IIRC was told to expect around a 15% pay cut I think. So my thought process is that in the industry, moving between jobs with higher experiences usually leads to a pay increase... so If I move from here to there with experience I may make a similar amount (maybe not quite as much as I do here, but maybe not a huge pay cut).

If I could move down there and pay off a huge percentage of a house AND make similar to what I am now it would be great. Particularly because of no sales tax and no state income tax in TX... I could take a pay cut and not loose too much at all in the end.

Yeah, around 9 I usually tell myself I should start being ready to pass out. By 10 I usually realize "oh damn, it's already 10, i should start getting ready soon" then by 11 I really start getting motivated and usually pass out by 11:30-12.

And on 3... if I had that as an option I would go in early in a heartbeat... but even if I went into work at 6AM I would still have to be working until 5 or 6 probably. My customer would just find more work for me to do and I would have reasons to stay at work anyway. Not to mention I usually stay on emails till 8-9PM anyway since we have the CA crew to keep up with.

travis stop reading the thread and go get your jeep!

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

renix's use a 195 degree t-stat, correct?
All 4.0s use a 195 stock AFAIK. People rip on em but I've had good luck so far with a Duralast, though I no longer shop at autozone unless I can't avoid it.

X2 :D

Scott - remember to compare energy costs and usage too. You're going to either be sweating your ass off, or paying a lot of electricity bills in the summer. Also, home insurance costs, those are liable to change.

EDIT: Travis, friend formerly with the MJ was really impatient and got an Audi :( sorry to get your hopes up
