THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I want to work on the Jeep but I am stuck in work :( Thinking of it... does anyone have a trailer I can borrow to get the Jeep to the shop? I just need it for one evening and have a suburban to use as a tow rig, just need a trailer.

Rear axle, I think - I say screw it, just drive it there slowly, the old axle is shot / needs rebuild anyways right?

Though... I seem to recall a brake line issue being mentioned or something now that I think about it.

FIRI!

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

whats stopping it from driving?

Rear axle is correct... The 8.25 decided to start acting up so I swapped in the 9" which also has some issues. I would prefer not to drive on the 9" at all if possible until it is rebuilt to make sure I don't fawk anything up and end up needing to spend more $$ on repairing it. Also, the rear brakes are not bled out at all since the bleeder screw snapped as soon as I tried to take it out.

If it still had the 8.25 out back I would def say FIRI, but since I have the 9 in there already I want to take the cautious approach and trailer it. The brakes (or lack there-of) doesn't bother me at all and I know it will be a relatively quick fix... but I am highly considering swapping disks onto it so I am putting that off and collecting disk swap parts while the Jeep is in the shop.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

So I have been bored reading around...

I know people use ATF/acetone for a penetrating oil. Some people claim that using either straight oil of wintergreen or adding oil of wintergreen to the atf/acetone mix works great as well.

I also found one forum/thread that was discussing the ATF/acetone mix and where they quoted that table of the forces required to break bolts free after being treated with different oils... One guy chimed in (who claimed to have been the guy who actually did the test) and stated that it was actually power steering fluid and acetone that was used for the test, not ATF. Kind makes me think I want to pick up some power steering fluid (and maybe some oil of wintergreen) and give it a shot. :dunno: I just cant remember if they are the same or just very similar fluids

Edit: This is the thread I'm talking about, on page 2 lbender is the guy who claims it was actually power steering fluid... not atf. http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net/showthread.php?t=27429

hahahahaha, yeah, that's exactly the picture I had in mind when I wrote that

EDIT: Travis, anyone got dibs on the windshield yet? If not, how much would you want for it? MJ needs one for a :gee: install so it can pass inspection, then get a pro installation a few weeks later.

not yet. $20? :dunno:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

That works! I'll take it. Just gotta pick up a windshield removal knife now.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

So thinking about it... my father owns something like 16-18 acres of land behind his office and no one has been out there in years... It's overgrown with thorns for the first 20-30 feet into the woods but that could probably be cleared to get out there.

I think I got the OK to take the XT (dirtbike) out back last summer but never had the time to do it. Thinking that once the Jeep is up and running there may be some exploring in order :D Only problem is that it may be alot of swampland and be ugly. Or it may be very overgrown and not enough space between trees... like I said, no one has been out there.

I am thinking I will have to stop by and clear a small path out to take the bike for a bit of an exploring session. 16 acres isn't much but maybe could find something to amuse myself.

But hey, if it's got some decent stuff maybe could be worthwhile as some play around in teh woods time. Local land is never bad.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

16 acres is plenty for a short loop. just find the hardest shit around and go straight from one thing to the closest.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

so my passenger rear drum i think is dragging pretty bad now, as of not even a half hour ago. drove to downtown to pick up one of my roommates, and by the time i got back the jeep was definately pulling and i had that awesome smell of smoking brake shoes. d'oh!

at least i have something to do on the jeep now, it's like the jeep yelled at me for having nothing break or go wrong lately
