Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread
Yeah I should have stopped, but the way the carnage looks, it seems like the ball joints gave out which took out the axleshaft. I'm not surprised, as they looked like really cheap ones.
So you are now going with what I said about your ball joints gave out first, after you were insisting it was the other way around???
I'm sure the cheapness of the balljoints attributed, but I think all the jumping you did was the main reason.
blowing up a ujoint generally results in loosing a knuckle
Bill's statement is correct here.
Colin was the first person who I've known of to lose a knuckle in my 4 years of wheeling, and I've known a lot of people to blow up u-joints/shafts.
I love reading you guys debating the 44 & 60 thing but I see nothing wrong with either one. What kills me the most is the fact that most of you dont use that big a tire so 60s are definitely overkill. When I was a kid and into wheeling XJs were brand new and not wheeled yet. Everything we wheeled was fullsize and big, if it didnt fit the trail we made it. I was into 78/79 Broncos and beat the crap out of them with a 44/9" combo and the smallest tire I ran was 35s. Mostly I ran 38's and with stock 3.50 gears, we added HP instead of gearing. I eventually found a set of 4.10 axles to swap in but when I went to bigger tires, 40s, instead of gearing I went 460. I hammered that truck and launched it more times than I can remember and the most I ever did on one front axle was get alittle bend on the longside. I also guarantee that my 79 was heavier then an XJ. Granted all 3 of my trucks now have 60 fronts I wouldn't knock the 60. Tha is all continue on. Oh and auto rules, 'F' manual.
Exactly, I talked with Colin about this one day. Full size people are running huge ass tires and more HP than little tiny cherokees, and are doing it on their stock axles just fine.
Colin, do you know where to acquire those cheap BJ's by any chance?
Oh my god, you are the neediest child ever!!!
HAHAHA. That was such a great conversation the other day, and this is better because I can picture you saying this exact phrase.
I would use persistent :dunno:
Nope, Ross and I talked about it when I picked up the hoist, you are needy.
i will agree with you Mark, some just dont need like i said in this thread before, there a few on here with 44 fronts that beat the shit out of then and do great, not all need 60's Bill
Agreed. I would be one of those people if I ever wheeled. I will hopefully before the end of this year.
Agreed 100%. It just the coin issue I was referring too.
exactly. The cost differance (as said many times) is minimal.
I remember one time when we were all in chat, and you and I compared costs, and there was a bigger difference than you thought.
I'm going to have to make an Excel sheet and compare, then report back.
