THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

cool beans. the vac disco housing isn't all that bad, in fact I don't know if it's weaker or stronger. The only problem people seem to have is seals when they convert to the one piece shaft (IIRC). Otherwise it's no problem at all. Be sure to ask how many miles on the gears, who set them up, etc etc. Also, silly question maybe, but is it from an XJ or a YJ? If it's out of a YJ and you'll need to do brackets etc then I'd advise against it. What do they want for it? (if ya dont mind me asking)

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I just got to my grandmothers house. Posting from cell. Found a packie with glenlivit on sale for like $32 per bottle. Made me happy.

I'm glad I'm out of work. Was only in for 3 hours today. :)

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

hp d30, 4.10 gears, Detroit locker... it's got the old vac disconnect, so I'm going to stick one of my old straight shafts in it (if I can do that, I seem to recall that being possible.) I know the vac disconnect housing makes it weaker, but I really doubt I'm going to be bouncing around enough to stress it that much.

Also, only getting it if it passes my inspection obviously... if it is too rusty, or the gears are chewed up, or the locker seems questionable, or it's otherwise AFU, I'm walking away.

you will have to pull the locker and install a inner seal very easy to do

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

yup i did that on my old d30

i wonder if i get time.5 tonight???

It claims to be from an XJ, and the pics look like XJ brackets (UCA/LCA visible.) The guy listed it and a d35 for 500 for the pair, I offered 300 for just the d30 and he said that'd be fine. From the pic he gives it looks like it comes with full steering, half of each control arm, a track bar and bracket, and some other random nonsense still attached. I definitely will ask about the gear setup, I'm going to do my best newbie attempt at checking the bearings and locker as well. Hopefully the balljoints aren't blown but even if they are, I'm not overly afraid of doing those.

EDIT: Rob/Rob - thanks for the info, I completely forgot about that. Good to know it's not too difficult.

just be sure no to mess up the bearing caps and bearing races when you pull the carrier, they need to go back in exactly the way they came out

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Doing balljoints isn't a big deal. (Seeing as he apparently agreed to 300 rather easily) While you're there try and point out some random BS and talk him down some more. "How about $200? Not trying to beat you up too much on it but Christmas really put a dent in my wallet and I'm not sure about these balljoints, plus unit bearings, plus this bracket looks a bit tweaked...." on and on until you sound like you're offering TOO much for it at $200 :D

Good luck with getting it

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

you should of bought billy's axle set instead

Oh believe me, I have all sorts of stuff ready to bitch about... been trying to buy a house after all, nitpicking comes naturally now :eyes: I could probably get it to 200 just by saying "well you said you'd take 400 for both so why not split that in half", we'll see. He claims the brackets are all just peachy, I bet the LCAs are tweaked or rusty though. And the pic he posted of it doesn't show either knuckle or the hubs so I am suspicious of them.

Believe me I considered it, I already have an 8.8 sitting around with 4.10s in it and there were a million people trying to buy that set though.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I forgot about that 8.8 you had gotten. Those will go together quite nicely!!

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

In all honesty, if you can get it for $200 just get it and worry about balljoints/bearings/seals etc later. Worst case you could make your money back on the locker alone

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

yeah it's gonna be a good deal of fun I think... I need to pick up a new center pin retainer bolt for it (it looked bunged up when I popped the cover but I had already pulled the axle and it was the only one with 4.10s in the whole yard) and finish installing the brakes + harass Ross into welding the tubes + weld the new brackets on, but otherwise it's ready to go :gee: by that I mean I pulled all the old brake hardware (rotors/pads/shoes) and the old brackets and cleaned it up a little.

EDIT: yeah, considering that, the locker is a real plus since I have none right now. If the gears aren't chewed up, hell, I'd run used gears in the other d30 I got to regear already. I'm not afraid of being a LITTLE ghetto so long as it works...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Oh yeah. You guys are a horrible influence. I came here trying to figure out how to replace my rear main seal and front pinion seal and fix my sagging leafs and now I don't even want to think about how much I've spent on this blasted thing. Dammit! :spin1:

:D

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

If it works, ghetto is not a concern. In fact, if you can achieve both "It works!" and "It's ghetto", you've got yourself something to be proud of, as far as I'm concerned

Glad to *help* :dunce:

:twak: lol

The guy ignored my question about the pinion bearing, ignored it AGAIN when I asked again, ignored my question about the balljoints... this is gonna be interesting I can tell already.

Test 1 passed! now just waiting on test 2 before I bail the hell out of here

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

You'll be going right by me to grab that axle. I wonder if I know who it is? If you can get it for $200 good for you but if knows anything about the axles, he's gotta know the rear is the weak link in the set. Easier to sell as a pr. with a D35 then seperate. Would any of you pay $200 for a D35 or buy a D35 for that matter in general. A lot of shady people selling stuff out of there. I would definitely pop the cover on the axle to make sure theres a locker. I wouldn't put it pass somebody to take a stock D30 w/4.10s, weld it and say it has a locker. If I wasnt busy today I'd meet you to go look at it, as New Bedford is less then 5mins from me.

Yeah turns out it's out in Acushnet actually, the guy's name is Frank if you know him. He told me he had 33s on the 35 locked and spun the tires all the time without breaking it, I assured him I was uninterested in a turdy-5... If I can't pull the cover and look, deal's off no question. I know next to nothing about lockers and he says it's got a "detroit tru locker" in it, which I suspect means a detroit truetrack. Already looked at Eaton's site and repeated "bolts on both ends is Truetrack, bolts on one end is Detroit Locker, lunchbox is Gearless" to myself till I can remember it :gee:

I don't have any gear marking compound on hand, or I'd check the pattern too... I have read a bajillion pages on setting up/checking gears but never done it myself.
