THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Naw, If it was the distributor clocking it wouldn't run.

It sounds like the alternator is no longer able to charge the battery properly, so after each use it keeps getting warn down. It could also be drawing power somewhere.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

That was my first thought too, but he swapped out the whole throttle body from a running driving XJ so it can't be that.

I suppose, I still wouldn't rule it out (I swapped out a functioning HDD on my computer with a good one... except shortly after swapping the 2nd HDD died too). I don't rule anything out these days :D The same thing happened with a couple of JY Jeep parts, worked fine for a bit but then died.

If the IAC didn't change over the years, I have a couple from the JY that I pulled from ~1993 XJs. You're free to have them and give them a try just incase..

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm having a similar issue in my build thread. The battery is on a charger now and I am going to pull it into the garage. I'm figuring it my alternator. Last night when I start it I would have to hold the gas. I would shift it into drive and maybe drive a block or two and it seems to idle just fine after that.

(until my battery get's drained down :| )

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yikes! Just called a place in pelham, they want fricken 500 bucks for a d30 with 4.10s in it. I can buy a d30 at sam's and two sets of d30 gears from national drivetrain for only a little more than that :scared:

I'll bet you that same $500 that you called Jean-Guy's? They SUCK. as you now know. :)

The very same! I was like "wow. Um, no thanks... I can buy one with 355s in it and a gearset and do it myself for a lot less than that..." Junkyards that want ridiculous amounts of money for their parts piss me off, especially when they can't even tell me if it actually has 4.10s in it before I ask for a quote. They claimed they'd have to bring it into the shop and pull it off and count the teeth to tell me for sure - apparently they don't know about the "hold one shaft, turn the pinion and see what happens" method just yet :gee:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yeah. Junior is the only guy there who's half decent. The rest of them suck sooo much, it's ridiculous

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

standard next to sams pull a part, they wanted 150$ for a xj front driveshaft.
yeah they suck pretty bad too, they're where I got my airhorn from though ($30, not bad.) They wanted $250 for an 8.25 with 3.55s, and told me they did not have an 8.25 with 4.10s or a d30 with 4.10s because the counter guy was an idiot and filled something in wrong. They supposedly have one (says "check ratio" like everyone else on the planet!) but $275 for a d30 from a JY is a little steep imo.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

but it runs normally if he keeps his foot on it and doesn't die right after starting, wouldn't that rule the ballast resistor out?

I fully support tearing the ballast resistor out and shunting the wires that went to it, though.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Mine ran fine(after I changed the fuel filter) when I was on the gas but ran like crap and eventually died trying to idle. Jumped the ballast resistor and viola, ran perfect. It's also common to crap out.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Anyone ever deal with Jeff Canter's Auto World? They're the guys who claim to have a d30 with 4.10s in a 4.0L, seems like a pretty decent guy other than that fact

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm at work right now. FTL.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I just got home and realized I have no beer here. oh well, now i just gotta decide between packie and bar

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

The bar's expensive. save money for Jeep :)
