THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I want to leave work... I'd rather be welding.

Oh well, I suppose I will use this time to plan out my lift now, I gotta figure out how to use those relocation brackets once I get them..

On that note, I understand the physics of how shackles work, but I am kinda having a tough time understanding why angling the shackle is better. I understand that it would flex easier... but at the same time I feel like a versicle shackle wouldn't lose very much 'ease of flex'. :dunno: It's probably covered in a thread here somewhere, but I am lazy today and got work to do. I wish this damn program would just work :flamemad:

this might be of use fo gettin all the flecks u want. its a work in progress

No problem man. I only heard about it through Adam as he has an 8.8.

On the whole shackle debate, I have gathered the following opinion:

- 90* shackle angle provides the most uptravel (to the point of inverting your spring) however it will ride like crap and not flex very easily. Also, you will only droop as far as your spring will go without starting to pull the body down with it as the shackle can not droop any further. I'm sure a heavier unsprung weight would help with this, however it would impose a serious arc on the spring depending on spring rate.

- 45* shackle angle would provide the best medium between uptravel and droop (since there is room for the shackle to swing down and swing up) and provide the easiest flex / smoothest ride since the spring as more leverage on the shackle

i agree, but i shall add some:

with an extended shackle you will never reach the limits of it each way. ideally you want it at a 45* angle to the leaf spring, not 45* to the ground. if you tune your suspension for droop have it more parralel to the ground.

stock leaves are flat and barely move so they get away with an itty bitty shackle at a crap angle.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

You know if the need arose they do make a 1310/1330 joint, so you could still use that flange.
Yeah, I considered that after someone suggested it - I figured it was less likely I'd be able to pick up replacements at autozone in an emergency if I used something like that.

EDIT:
i have a few pinion gears you could weld to the top for pimp caneness
badass.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Huh. I just measured the flange yoke I got out of the grand marquis and it's got a 1330 in it... now I'm confused.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

hire him, solve both problems at the same time!

wait... no... that won't help

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I want 1880 sized u-joints.
don't the Honda engineers call the caps off those pistons or something?

So my Jeep is on 3.5" leaf springs and soon enough I will be running the relocation brackets. The brackets give 1.5" lift w/ vertical shackle, so figure maybe 0.75" (if I set up with a 45* to ground angle, maybe I will set up with less than 45* to ground since I wanted to keep it low COG. (but still want OK up travel) now that I am factoring in droop I have rethought all my earlier comments, I knew I left something major out. I gotta draw everything out before I put the relocation brackets on.. If I set it up for 45* with stock shackles then my angles will be all f'ed up once I get longer shackles. Maybe thats what I will do tonight.. draw everything out.

Granted I know I need to do my own experimentation once I get the setup, will probably end up with 1.5" shackles and the relocator and try to work the angles to net me 1.5" lift. That would be ideal I think. Thanks.

[/ramble] (just had to talk myself through that a bit )
