THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Keith - if you need spare body panels and stuff there is a beautiful red 96 (either Classic or Limited, I forget) in Sam's in Worcester. The dash and stuff are pretty torn apart but it's got some good stuff left. It has power mirrors and a bunch of other stuff. Let me know if you want me to grab anything, I get pretty good prices there (hell the guy just straight up gave me a pair of coil-on-plug modules and an oil pressure sensor today)

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

What an idiot. I love when dealers put "V6 power" on the windsheild of a later model XJ. So I ask them if I can get a lower price if I can prove it isnt a V6. Usually they ask me to leave and it's changed a day or two later.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

It's a 96 - center console looked like it was in mostly OK shape, the latch was broken though. There's probably at least 3 or 4 non broken 96 console latches there, I forgot to grab one this run through.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

At worst? build custom wiring harnesses, pull them through the wiring boots, build relay box, build control module, install. Pulling the wiring into the boots would be the worst.

At best? pull the mirrors and wiring harnesses out of the doors, plug em into the 94, plug the switch from the center console into the wiring harness, DONE. I'll have to see if the wiring harness was different 94 vs 96 and if the 94 had that option available, if it does, it's probably just a matter of making sure I pull all the harnesses.

you mean non broken console latches exist? schwaaaa?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

So not including the 80 miles I drove to and from work yesterday, I drove about 160 miles.

Went to Sam's to drop off the Kumhos and get the suckdown winch, and then all the way to Boston to pick up Mark then over to Wellesley to check out the XJ, then drop off Mark then back home.

I love my CTD :D.

BTW Mark, the thing that bothered me about the brakes on that thing was that it SHOULD have had a vacuum assist booster in it (AFAIK). It's like it had manual brakes. Really hard pedal and didn't want to stop.

To me, it looks like it will need:
- oil filter adapter o-rings
- possible valve cover gasket. Wasn't it leaky around there? Service records said it was done in '05 so it's probably due. Either that or the bolts loosened up, I have to retorque mine every so often.
- at least front rotors/pads, inspect the rears
- rear brake hard line (was getting crusty right around the bracket that it clips onto before it turns into the soft line)
- sand down the bubbling and re-paint that
- possibly track bar. Something felt kind of loose in the front end.
- spray down the underneath with some kind of undercoating before the cape destroys it.

A bit pricey considering it's 18 years old, but definitely one of the cleanest XJs I've seen of that age, good score Mark.

Yup! It was one of the few things *not* broken on my XJ when I got it.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yeah I went to open mine the other day and was like "Whoa, I deffinatly forgot a step here and it still opened..." That's when I realized it was broken.

I'm pretty sure the older boosters going on those is common. The WJ booster/MC swap is so easy to do that there is no reason not to do it even if it worked fine.

No as in there was no booster there at all. MC straight to the firewall. The vacuum port on the intake was even blocked off.

I've driven vehicles with manual brakes and it definitely acted like it.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

coollll!!!

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Weird, 18 years is far from the age before brake boosters becoming standard. My comanche has power brakes and it's 19-20 years old. Now that I think of it anything with disc brakes I would think should have power brakes since the piston in a manual MC would be too small to work the brakes up front effectively.

Tell that to Mopar back in the day. They decided to use large bore MCs with manual brakes. Not saying it was right because you're correct it doesn't make sense.

The larger bore size takes more pedal effort but moves more volume in shorter pedal travel. They used them on manual disc/drum (which was an option).

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yeah I wasn't saying it couldn't have ever been an option but I was saying it would be a pretty crappy option to see used. So maybe his brakes are stock, just never heard of manual brakes in an XJ/MJ before.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Disks up front suck enough with a single diaphram booster, I can't imagine how much they suck with manual brakes.

Yeah sorry, that came off wrong. I was just agreeing with you, it's a dumb idea. I've never heard of manual brakes in an XJ, let alone a 91+.

They blow.
