Face shields are nice, but they are big, get in the way most of the time, and usually fog up so I can't see jack sh*t. When cutting the wedges off my 44 I did use a face shield though.

And I'll stick to my AW4. I like not having that 3rd pedal in my Jeep.

and im tempted on ditching the aw4 on the green rig for a 5spd, well see how money is down the road with this progect

the if you can't find em grind em thing makes perfect sense....until you drive scott's jeep, give up on finding em, and TRY grinding em as a last ditch effort, and still have a helluva time getting it to do that!

It's not like I dont like standards or can't drive them, I prefer that one less thing to worry about while wheeling. My XJ was and is the only auto I own. For the fist couple hundred miles I would slam on my brakes thinking there was a clutch there.

I can counter that reasoning easily enough. My standard doesn't ever get me in a situation with a downhill section where I have to worry about the Jeep trying to power through my brakes :)

I can counter that situation Travis.
I don't have to worry about my Jeep stalling in the rocks or feathering the clutch.

Yeah that's what I said, not sure how that makes it better than a stick shift either. Don't know where I was going with that...

I can say that the old jeep manuals equipped with TH400s wrote that in case of brake failure you can put the transmission in reverse. That's pretty badass...

In that case, I think I'd like a 5spd in my rig. Just to be able to say that my tranny is built to handle putting it in reverse while moving forward. If I even think about putting my VW in reverse moving any faster than .0000005 mph it grinds like a mother.
