THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

so my new water pump is in, but after cutting up my hands and shit yesterday in the humidity/drizzle I gave up after a little while. all i have to do is get some bolts to bolt the idler pulley back on, hook up the hoses and shit, and put the new thermostat in. Turns out the old water pump was officially junk, and there was a nice green stain coming out of the weep hole at the bottom. its hard to tell that the leak was originally from the weep hole since it looked like the lower hose. I also have to straighten up the steering wheel at the drag link since i never bothered to do that, and the sucker will be driving this weekend!!

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy a welder within the next few days. Either from Billy's friend Nick or a Hobart which are around $300 for a gasless one.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

definitely get the one from nick. you'll want the ability to use gas.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

What do you guys think about welding outdoors with gas though? 100% of my welding will be outdoors.

Until this past winter all my welding was done outside, with gas. Setting up some form of a wind break (I've used plywood, cardboard, a tarp, etc. whatever is laying around) will help keep breezes from clearing the gas. Also running slightly more flow than you typically would can help. You can go through gas a little faster, but it's better than having a junk weld.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'll probably call Nick tomorrow, I really want to start learning how to weld.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I have to wait until I can afford a house for that luxury.

i do all mine outside/at the very end of the garage with gas. it's really not a big deal as long as it's wind protected or you turn the gas up a little. it's pretty easy to use your body as a windblock too. don't get flux core. the best use for it is burning through rust. the gas makes such cleaner welds. flux core leaves poop everywhere. i learned on gas and thought that was hard enough. flux core is way messier.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

and a plasma cutter

Some can run on 110 as well. Mine runs on either 110 or 220.

I've got 220 running my air compressor, and another outlet for when I can get a better welder. Not that anything is wrong with mine, I just need a TIG unit. I've had to turn down jobs since I don't have TIG yet.
