THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i bet it's more likely to get DW with IFS. more stuff to get loose.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm pretty sure I have plans with Mia this afternoon but I think I'm just going to ask if she minds "hanging out" at my house hah. "yeah, just sit there in that nice chair, mhm, good. Yep, enjoy your book and careful for the sparks, now..."

;)

ew. i dont want DW. ive never heard of it though with anything IFS. i've only heard stories (and experienced it) in jeeps and other solid axle vehicles. maybe i'll just have to hold off on moving in the jeep until i fix the balljoints since i still have the garage bay open

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yeah probably smarter to do the balljoints first to just get them out of the way....one less thing to worry about, at least you'll have that vehicle good to go.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

You wont get DW but you'll get a vibe at a certain spot until its about to break and then you better replace. Ive had a couple Chevys with bad ball joints.

Kyle, I'd come up and help you but I got no ride. I could rip out that tranny in no time, Ive only done a hundred, its putting them back in that I have a smaller amount of experience.

On the subject of shafts, Ive had a couple made at Mitchell's and they hold up pretty well.

This week I'm picking up a set of D60 axles, a 93 XJ and a 98 F150. Anybody need a cheap truck?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i'll plan on starting to replace the balljoints friday afternoon when i get back from work, which may or may not take into saturday also to fix. i duno what i'll find in there, the truck is 20 years old. bump if i get the balljoints all good to go i might be able to come down and grab you so we could possibly get the tranny pulled sunday if you're around?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yeah no problem, let me know. I can actually tell you off the top of my head every socket and wrench you will need to take it out. Unfortunately I've done like 4 just recently and it always pisses me off how they used so many diff. sizes on it.

ud be very surprised how easily stuff comes outta that truck. i blew a brake line and was exepcting to have to replace everything, but low and behold, as rusty as it all looks every bolt and nut ive turned on the truck came out no problem.

Umm... get her some safety glasses and a pair of gloves.
No reason she can't help...
Oh, and stop changing your plans and get to work. No roof cutting until the front axle is complete!

BOOM!

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

travis, do you have a 10lb sledge? i've heard it's handy for getting the C's off.

I didn't need a sledge to my inner C's off.

The way I did it was to cut the entire C off with the axle still inside it, behind the weld. Then grind the weld off. I did the "grind until you see a line separating the C and the tube" method. The only problem was I NEVER SAW THE DAMN LINE. I ended up using a saws-all and making 2 cuts from the inner diameter surface of the axle tube to the out, without cutting into the C. The cuts were opposite each other, so the tube was no longer whole, and pushing into the C. I could then use a small mallet and beat the tube portions out.
