THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i want to keep leafs rear i think... i'll probably keep the ladder bar. i think i'll wait and see how my current front arms hold up this summer. if they don't get too effed, i'll probably keep them. and bracket the font 60 for stock xj arms...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i'd love to 4-link the rear and 3-link the front, but it's a lot more expensive...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Haha what is this Colin, you are going the opposite way of what we talked about this morning.

Colin, IF you really are going to start from scratch and narrow/build an axle, kook into a D60. All kidding aside, when you are said an done the price will be about the same if not very close. Seriously, sit down with a pad/pen or with a spreadsheet and compare them. You'll see what I mean. I'll see if I can dig up the one I did, I know I saw it a few weekends ago in my pile of notes. It's the whole reason I sold my HPD44 and got the HPD60...

Food for thought anyway...

(Oh, and yes, I know you "only" have a D44 rear. There is nothing saying you can't keep that. So don't start an argument that you'd need a new rear as well.)

I talked with Colin this morning when I was heading to work. And even though it may be silmilar in cost to build a 60, but why do you need a 60?

The way I was seeing it is, unless you need a 60, then why get a 60? Colin is only on 35" tires, and a 44 will be more than enough for the wheeling and size tire he has. When well build, a 44 will be able to hold at least up to 37's. A 60 just seems like excessive overkill for the tire he would be running. I enjoy overkill (built HP44 on 33's) but a 60 just seems like an anchor for it.

FWIW, my plan would be to run 38" SX's on the one tons...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

you guys are nuts. are 38s on one tons even necessary with the wheeling we have aruond here?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Why do you need 37s? Granted with the D60 you'll have less clearance, but I don't think all that much. I should have measured when I had both of them side by side before I sold the D44. Anyway, then if/when you decide to make the jump you don't have any work to do.

Yes. There are a few places to get the hubs. They are not cheap, but then again neither are new 8on6.5 hubs. Here is the first place I found that has them, I know I've seen them elsewhere on the PBB. http://www.blackbirdscustomtrucks.com/index14.html

In the end it is all your call. Your Jeep, your budget, your build. I'm just trying to save you from building something twice.

HOLY CRAP THOSE ARE EXPENSIVE. $400 for HUBS?

I don't beleive that building a 60 would be the same cost as a 44. For one, to match the 5x5.5 bolt pattern, you would need those $400 hubs, and new alloy shafts for the rear D44. With a 44 front, you only need the alloy shafts.

Bill, don't you keep saying keep it small?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Disclaimer: This was done a little while ago so the prices might have changed some. I priced both as high steer axles to keep it fair. Somethings might not be needed, but this is what I came up with when I was doing mine.
Also, I am NOT responsible for what the following chart might cause you to do. ;) Prices do not include the initial price of the axle.

I did say they were expensive.
Ok... good point, but that wasn't my case.
Read above, the price is very close if you keep the playing field fair, and the 8 on 6.5" patterns.
Brackets and steering linkage is left out about because they would be the same for both axles.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Bill's tryin to make excusesssssss ;) lol

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'll have to post up some of the chart I made when I built my 44. Some of those prices are slightly off.

For example:
D44 high steer knuckles: $490.50
I payed $200 for a complete axle with flatops. I was even able to use the calipers for cores.

Ball joints did not cost me $90.

i'm probably just as far from the good stuff in NH as the stuff out in western MA. if you ever get your jeep on the road before mine i might want to ride shotgun on a DWE run

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i kiiinda want to go for a DWE run, but it would be a bad day in terms of driving home....

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i would rather build something other than an XJ into a buggy. I think on 35s they are the perfect vehicle for what we have around here.
a TJ with a long wheelbase (like cory's) would be SWEET

oh there's no way i'm taking my jeep actually wheeling with them on my baby 32s or 33s (if i can find a good set). official photographer i can do

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Another thing to think about, Colin would have to get new tires, as he wouldn't be able to use a 15" rim on a D60. (I believe your 16.5's were a tight fit?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

yup, he would

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

so even if the axles priced out the same for a d44 and d60 it would still be much more expensive for new wheels and tires ontop of the axles
