Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread aka North America Home Owners Association Thread
Not much.
3 inspection tickets and an exhaust ticket in the red XJ. 2 inspection tickets on the mass pike driving home from work, followed by an exhaust ticket on the pike. Two were from the same cop, he had a major hardon for that POS.
Another inspection ticket one block from home because another cop decided I looked suspicious in such a nice (ha) neighborhood in such a shitty car, then justified the stop with an inspection ticket.
Lived paycheck to paycheck for a looong time while catching up on bills and paying off debts. I still have a couple to go but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Threw together a custom Subaru motor, drove to upstate NY in the jeep on a Sunday, installed it in a $300 shitcan Forester I bought with no motor, drove the Forester home with the XJ's plates on it. Wednesday morning (yes, 3 days later) I got pulled over on the way to work for yet another inspection sticker ticket. I was within the 7 day grace period for registration so running the swapped plates was legal, and hadn't even started the 7 day inspection grace period, but didn't have my paperwork in order so they threw the book at me, 2 felony charges and yet another inspection sticker ticket, then destroyed my plates and impounded the Subaru. Oh, that was 15 minutes after I checked the mail for the first time in a few weeks and got the notice that I was two days from the start of a 60 day license suspension from all the inspection tickets, basically the same boat Colin994 was in. Guess what, someone with a DUI charge can get a cinderella license, but someone with inspection sticker tickets and exhaust tickets can't. I ended up living in my parents spare bedroom like a goddamn highschooler and fixing everything they own (almost literally) in exchange for rides to work.
Got all the charges thrown out easily (magistrate was very impressed by the fact that I had it insured less than an hour after being cited, registered within days, and inspected on time) and one of the other inspection tickets thrown out, finished my suspension and got my license back.
Being so damn broke from paying off debts that you can't afford to buy a new ride that'll pass inspection while the old one's being a cursed piece of shit and breaking something new every time you fix the last thing it would have failed for is a hell of a thing. I had two choices, roll the dice every day on not getting an inspection ticket and make it to work, or not go to work and get fired. That's not much of a choice, so I rolled the dice, and lost.
So yeah, last year ****ing sucked, at least the last few months of it did. Mostly back on my feet again now, have money in the bank and paying down the last few debts I have, building jeeps is probably on the back burner for the foreseeable future however.
Oh, I will probably finish fixing the five ton and register it this year even so, because I got some great info on an insurance company that will work with me on not needing the vehicle to be garaged to get antique insurance (cheap) and antique registration (also cheap.) I figure it'll make a good backup commuting vehicle. :wow:
I can't wait to hear about all the crazy shit that's happened to you since we've talked last
