THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

If I ever have a question on wood, I ask Ross.

Cough cough, this was jab/idea at you.....

A very popular thing to do with those cuts is make a mantle top on say an expose brick fireplace.

Although the piece there is nice, it would have been better if they rest of the wood was unpainted so it would match. I talked with my dad, he had some suggestions about removing the paint if you wanted to go back to exposed bare beams. I think it would look much nicer, also on the boards around the base of the walls too.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Otherwise you're gonna have some piece of shit piece of wood that will never look as nice. You want something that is seasoned and weather, not green or growing anymore. Ideally to get something nice like that pic that really has some nice color/grain, something dredged up would look beautiful. After being underwater for a while, the log will suck in all the sediments and when the piece is cut, it makes an exposure like that. A very popular thing to do with those cuts is make a mantle top on say an expose brick fireplace.
 Thanks
I use to find pieces that big near my parents house in Hull a few years back washed up on the beach. My brother's buddy offered to pay $$ for good pieces but I just sent them his way free.

Go take a drive and go to the bayside of Hull... :)
I need something to get it home with first :banghead:
If I ever have a question on wood, I ask Ross.

If I ever have a question on wiring, I ask my friend Nick.

If I ever have a question on dicks, I ask Carmelo.

If I ever have a question on gay butt secks, I ask Pat.

The theme here is that Colin asks his male friends about things that can easily be turned into gay euphemisms.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

To do it right with nice old salvage wood, it is not gunna be cheap. Check a restoration/salvage company for something. There's a place in Cambridge near Alewife that has giant pieces like that.

That place mainly just cuts pieces into moldings and trim its off by where my old office was

Theres a couple places over there. Place I'm referring too I've seen giant pieces out front. I'm talking like 75' old ship mast or a 3' diameter old growth stump, stuff that can be reused to make some high end pieces. There's also Anderson McQuaid and they have a small specialty shop out back, I go there to get wide boards when I'm building coffee tables as presents.

At my old job we used to use a lot of reclaimed wood to build furniture. I know the place we got it was in the Boston area. All the stuff we used came from a ship that wrecked in the Amazon river something like 2-300 years ago. All i know is that we spent a ton of money on it.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Wayyyy too much fun driving around tonight. I haven't seen roads this bad in years.

It's still ****in' dumping snow here, delayed opening for work til 10 but it might not even clear up before then. Guess I'll get up around 8 and try to plow because it's a useless endeavor right now with the wind bein what it is.

I love this shit. :D

Outside oil tank gelled overnight. Woke up and it was 45* in the house. #trailerproblems

Wire rope heater from my waste oil setup in Westport wrapped around the filter can fixed it. Time to look into some additive.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

225/75r15 almost bald allseason spare + 205/70r15 almost full tread studded snows on the other 3 corners = holy hell I have never been so afraid to drive a jeep in my life.

And the replacement tire arrives... Monday.

Being broke sucks, hopefully not for much longer, couldn't order the replacement till I got paid on the 31st or it would have been here sooner.

Coal & natural gas FTW

My single-source coal stove can maintain a +55 temp differential over outside without working it too hard; even warmer than that in the living room where the stove is. That's at about 1/2 the cost of natural gas and 2/3 the cost of a BTU-equivalent stack of wood at market value. Goes for about 16 hours unattended at that rate too. :)

My John Deere on the other hand is none too happy and I just cranked the battery dry attempting to start it to plow the driveway. It fired on literally the last crank before the battery crapped out and was too grumpy to maintain idle for very long. It's back on the charger and I'm back inside for a lil while before I give it another shot.

Ended up with 8" overall and drifting to 16+ in spots.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

My jeeo was dead this morning, haven't touched in a while. Plowed my entire backyard, jumped the jeep, and did some donuts.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I took my Jeep to the mall parking lot last night for some "testing" before going wheeling tomorrow. Turns out I wasn't the only one with the idea, and there were about 8 or 9 other Mustangs, trucks and Subarus whipping high speed donuts there. Fun was ended when the mall security guard with a confederate flag front plate shooed everyone away saying the cops were on their way.

Something is scraping around my rear wheels after that, time to figure out what it was

This place used to have a woodstove... I wish it still did. I really like the idea of multiple types of heating. When one fails you're not hosed. Stoves really give it the warm feeling too. This house always has a chill unless you've been cooking all day.

We're back up to girlfriend-is-happy temps now.
