THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Hate to rain on the parade, but the lack of rowdiness is non-negotiable this year.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I know someone said this to me just last night, but you might want to be careful about what you post here :spin1:

I just put more heat tape on my pipes, apparently I missed a spot or two. Only noticed when the damn trap for my shower froze up this morning and I ended up taking a showerbath until it melted out enough to flow again.

It's not like you to not cover something up with tape ken, is everything okay?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Can some one fill me in on coil overs? Like I want to know about why they are such a big deal?
I know im a noob.

Oooh boy. Well, if you have to ask...

I had FOA's for a while, I didn't die, although being in close proximity to them at times I probably could have (re: ktmracer419). I wouldn't hesitate to use them on a non-skydriving rec wheeler and if you manage to actually get good parts from them and assemble them yourself in a non-jackass manner it's a decent product. A few internal improvements could go a long way.

The only reasons I'd consider putting them on an XJ-based platform again are a) if you're consistently finding the thermal limits of your existing shocks, b) have enough smoothbody shock damping already that you can actually take advantage of a fine-tunable spring rate, or c) have damaged/tweaked the front end enough that it's no longer structurally viable but you don't wanna start from scratch on something else.

450 miles (8+) hours each way for me to get to Rocktoberfest - prob not gonna happen
Why not?
That's just about what it is for me to get to NACFest.

Exactly.
We are 100% serious folks. You've been warned early.
Most people are not the issue. It is a select few. I hate to be that guy in the picture above, but I have to be for this event.

Does this mean I don't hafta be the bad guy for once? :D

Kidding...the way things are going I'll be feeling your house-building pain just around then too. :/ I've learned more about septic systems and wells in the last few days than I ever thought I'd know...

cliff notes is my offer was accepted on good faith and the listing was conditionally withdrawn pending due diligence on the self-contained utilities (only thing I can run from the street is gas, it turns out), and as long as the execution of the estate (since the 91-year-old owner passed away in the meanwhile) goes as everyone thinks it will and no random relatives jump in to try and claim anything.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Can I just take a moment and note how annoying it is to measure angles and tapers for kingpins and balljoints?

Jesus. Never again.

edit: Sounds like good progress, good luck!

Pat - if you get a second, any chance you can measure the distance from the flat back face of the yoke on those 44 shafts I sold you to the close side (or center, but close side is easier IMO) of the ujoint ear holes? A-C or A-B on this diagram, either works as long as I know which it is.

If you don't feel like it I'll see if I can find the info online.

Yes, but not really. :D

Nice!
Septics ain't cheap to build or rebuild and if you need to redrill a well they are a crap shoot (hopefully no pun intended) as to how deep you go.

Got any specs on the well? If not, spend the hundred or so bucks and have it tested. Worth know if you need zero extra, $1000 extra for a new pump, or $5k+ for new well.

edit: Sounds like good progress, good luck!

My feebly-extended proposal of 10 days for due diligence instead of trying to cram it all in during 3 days of attorney review was trumped by their request for 4 weeks to settle the estate. I'm not complaining. That's why they conditionally withdrew the listing, because technically we haven't come to any sort of legal agreement, but they're happy with my offer and the terms I proposed, and that was the best way we could come up with to avoid it being a 'holding out for better offers' sort of situation.

Of course that puts me in a catch-22 of sorts while I spend resources investigating the well & septic for a deal that's not set in stone, but I have a generally good feeling about it. By the letter of the law they're responsible for a clean bill of health on the well because city water isn't available, but selling it as-is leaves some wiggle room, and I don't wanna queer the deal at all by putting more burden on them. I'm gonna hash the contract language out with my attorney next week that'll probably fall along the lines of I'll cover the testing if they cover any remedial actions that result from it. I'd be OK with that.

I can get city water at the expense of roughly $100/ft for the street opening to the nearest junction, which is 360 feet away. There are 5 houses in between and for everybody that agrees to split the initial cost (plus whatever their own hookup charges would be), the water company will issue a $6000 credit once the work is done. So basically we'd all have to pitch in and front the money for the work, but it'd work out in the end. I doubt that's something I'd plan on happening though, at least not to base the contract on. I'll count on the well for now.

I think a better option is to contact the owners of those other 5 houses and get references for their well & septic contractors, in the interest of getting the best deal I can for my own stuff. That sounds a lot better than picking a random company out of the yellow pages.
