THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Ok- time for the NAC-lots-o-legal-advice thread:

Just got pinched for 81 in a 65 on 495S. I had to pick up one of my drivers after he swapped out trucks with another guy that was broken down. He also got me because I didn't get the Jeep inspected when I bought it a few months ago (sticker expires in March of next year)- total ticket is $210.

My last violations are:
-Ran a red light Dec 2011 in CT (vehicle registered in CT).
-Speeding (71 in a 50) and no inspection in VT in June 2009 (vehicle registered in VT).
-No seatbelt in September 2007

Fight this? Obviously I will get the inspection done in the meantime, which I'd bring to court- but do any of you lawyers think I can get the speeding knocked down?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Trying to hand in my fire arms application at the police station.... this is like my 4th time here over the past 2 weeks. "The guy that handles firearm apps. isnt here right now, you can wait for him of you want"..... this is way to difficult

Took me forever to get mine started as well...surprisingly once all the paperwork was in place they actually got it back to me relatively quickly. I also thought the outsourced fingerprinting was gonna be a pain in the ass but that was the smoothest part of the whole operation.

Then I went and lost my wallet so I have to go over there at some point and get a replacement ID card...fully expecting that to be a pain in the ass as well. Luckily I made a photocopy of it to keep in my pistol case so I'm not completely screwed in the meantime...

Yup. I'd definitely fight that, personally. You can almost always get the ticket knocked down. 81 isn't totally ridiculous by any means, and you could easily enough say you were going with the flow of traffic and didn't realise the speed etc. Play dumb about the sticker, and show you're a good intentioned and now more well informed citizen because you got it inspected immediately after this incident, blah blah.

Worth a try, unless fighting it will screw you over at work or something somehow...

might be worth it to hire a lawyer.

Since you have no prior inspection tickets you will likely get that one thrown out, unlike me, they laughed at me the last time I went in.

I don't think you'll get anywhere on the speeding since you have been convicted of it before... though a lawyer that deals with that court frequently may have more luck.

Might get lucky, might not. Reminds me, I need to call up the officer that ticketed me for my inspection last and ask if he could have the court's decision thrown out, as he told me straight up that he'd do so if I brought proof of inspection. I did, and there was another officer there, and it didn't go very well for me... I figure I might as well call, worst case he laughs at me too.

My only advice is to not take any of Ken's advice when it comes to inspections and speeding (unless you're wondering how to get more tickets)

Plan is to get the inspection done ASAP.

Not sure what would be going for me in court other than this is the first speeding violation I've had in 3+ years? What do people normally tell the judge? Never been to court for a traffic violation before.

I'm not really sure how the MJ passed. They even looked at the suspension... and checked the frontend... a few weeks before NACFest. With my old balljoints "installed".

They did fail me for a bad unit bearing on the driver side though, and for the e-brake on the red jeep. Both fixed and passed with flying colors.

Was talking to my passenger and my speedometer doesn't work 50% of the time. Think that will fly?

it's not like they put it on a dyno or check that at all.

maybe if you couple that with an explanation of how that has since been fixed- "The sensor for the speedometer was loose and has since been corrected, but at that time my speedometer was unreliable and I just did my best to drive reasonably and with the flow of traffic"...doesn't need to be realisitic, but short and sweet and complicated enough while still being plausible so he's more likely to just go "whateverthe**** thats supposed to mean...something about it was a problem and isn't anymore....good enough for me...you're free to go."

One can hope anyway :chef:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I tried the reasonable explanation tactic once, it didn't work.

Going 50 around a corner in a 35 with my 'vette earned me a careless driving award because the cop said I was fishtailing. I argued the ticket was bullshit because my car could hold that corner just fine at 70 so obviously I wasn't out of control.

The judge wasn't impressed.
