THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Thought I'd share this from work. It's a D275 Dozer that's been in out shop this week for a transmission cooler failure, we ended up replacing the whole radiator. Anyone care to guess what a new one cost from Japan?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

1300, depending on the strength of the yen

I bet 1-800-radiator has one cheap and in stock

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Part out half the jeeps in your yard and you can afford it, or take out an equity loan......seems to be a no risk situation
3 of the 7 jeeps in the yard aren't mine, so I wouldn't feel right about parting them out.

Is it an aluminum radiator or a copper/brass one? I'm guessing $1500 aluminum, $5000 copper. Plus shipping.

another problem: the number the guy gave me over the phone as a rough figure was 7 to 15 thousand. Even selling all the jeeps in the yard for their perfect condition CL price wouldn't bring in that much.

If that includes waste disposal (it does), asbestos removal in the basement (I think it does), and mold remediation (it does), I will have to think about it a lot. If it also includes stripping the asbestos siding off the outside, I will be on my way to the bank for a cashiers check and looking for a place to sign on the contract.

ten grand.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

where is this thing parked again? I could use that much money right now.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

To be fair I did say it depends on the yen, thus protecting me from a wrong answer

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

It was $17,000USD not including freight. The best part? The guy who 'diagnosed' it was wrong. He basically threw the parts dart and said it was the transmission cooler, which is hard mounted inside the lower radiator tank, that was dumping oil into the coolant. Apparently he never pressure tested the cooler, because it holds 25PSI all day, and the system should never see more that 14-21PSI. He's on vacation this week, and it was my job to install the new radiator and lines then flush the system. It didn't clean up very well, haha.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

holy shit.

what WAS dumping oil into the coolant? Engine got a problem?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

My best guess is the engine oil cooler, they've been known to fail on the 140 series engines, and the mixture is really dark colored, most likely from the carbon buildup in the engine oil.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I just found a 360, transfer case (no transmission, guy bought the truck for that), engine computer, and most of the wiring harness + engine accessories for 600 bucks, plus the guy will let me pull damn near anything else I need to put the swap together out of the donor for free.

looks like the blue MJ may get swapped sooner than I thought, i.e. sometime in the next 3 years.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

chrysler 360 I take it? good deal. how many miles on the motor?

you'd appreciate the fact that I have 3 (or maybe 4?) new mj customers all within the past 3 weeks. they must suddenly be more in than ever.

Asbestos, depending on what type it is could be nasty stuff, I wouldn't want to mess with it.

What are the legal methods for YOU to remove it? I'm sure you need to get it to a special drop spot. How much is that going to cost? I'd get a couple quotes both ways and see how it works out. Good luck.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

a friend of a friend's dad removed all the asbestos from his house years ago and left it in his garage, and has been slowly throwing it away in the trash for years (illegally). the idiot will probably die from mesothelioma for trying to save a few thousand $$.

I would definitely pay to have that professionally cleaned up as that stuff is no joke.
