so i got a delema, my fuel pump is prob gonna be installed right above where the exhaust runs, granted theres 5-6" betweek the 2 and the muffler doen have a heat shield, the pump is getting mounted right on to of a crossbar where a exhaust mount is welded to, do you guys think to much heat will get transferred or should it be ok?

Pressing bushings into leaf springs sucks.

Once, just ONCE, I would like to open a transfercase or axle in a Jeep, and NOT FIND METAL SHAVINGS!

I already know the answer to this, but how much play should there be between the spider gears and the cross shaft they ride on?

Briarwood. There is noticeable play in the spider gears in the turdy-5 on the cross-shaft. There is a little bit between the cross-shaft and carrier too. Drained the oil and out game blue tinted gear oil filled with metal shavings.

I wanted to just do rear brakes real quick on the BlairBitch this weekend, then pull up your old Jeep and start ripping the drivetrain out of it, but instead I keep finding more shit wrong with the Briarwood.

stuff an 8.25 in that thing and don't look back.

I have never found metal shavings in anything I opened... except for my first AW4. I'm sure my second AW4 would have been similarly full of pieces of metal and clutch friction.

I pressed my leaf bushings in with a vise. Worked great.

Jeff, I see you looking at this thread. I'm laughing because we were talking about spider gears when we were at the store.

By the way Jeff it the man! Took time out of his day to go back to his store so I could buy some leaf springs.

only time I got shavings out of an 8.25 was after I let one sit for 2 years and then drove on the old fluid for a while. There were a few (very few) shavings but it was just shitty looking in general.... and then the axle died within 200 miles of driving, some of which was in the woods the day I got the POS back on the road and the same day I picked up the 9" :gee:

Guess it's good I replaced the axle soon after. Swapping the tires tomorrow, hopefully welding up brackets for my new seats that I have been putting off, and bringing the Mustang to the shop for [hopefully] the last work and then it's back to DD'ing the Jeep again.... starting to think I should just keep DD'ing the Jeep and make the Mustang a low-mileage car to save on insurance.

go to your local drugstore and purchase some water based lubricant of your choice. works real good for leaf bushings. i would think windex or something of that sort would help too...i used to use it on bike handlebar grips.

Has anyone used any of the recent Sony receivers? I know years ago they were "meh" at best, then I had a couple buddies who loved their sony stuff a few years ago, and now I'm thinking about picking this head unit up, mostly because of the Android/BB bluetooth pandora support... just not sure what the quality of sony stuff has been recently
