Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Interesting day today.
It started yesterday morning, I towed in a geo prism that went sideways into a tree. Later that day the owner brought us the title, and I decided to make it my enduro car for figure 8 racing. After work, I stripped it and added the required safety shit. about halfway through prepping the car, a train stops behind the building, and a few minutes later my boss shows up, along with 2 DEP officers, and some woman from a wildlife rescue company. Turns out someone on the trail noticed a injured owl, and I ended up spending the next hour trying to find it with everyone else. We couldnt find it in the dark, so the woman from the rescue company gave me a crash course in owl catching and my boss told be to try and catch it when I got into work in the morning.
Finished up the car around 10, grabbed some dinner, and headed home. went to bed around 11:30, only to be woken up for a wrecker call 20 minutes later. get home, and then get another call. Ended up doing 6 calls last night, and got maybe an hours sleep.
I get into work this morning, and went owl hunting. Took about 20 minutes to find her, but I caught to owl.

Its a great horned owl.

Get done with work, loaded my enduro car, and headed up to the hebron fair to race it in the double figure 8 race.
I started 6th in a 7 car heat, and managed to get to the front in the first lap, then lapped the field by the 5th lap. on the last lap, going into the end turn hard, I got tagged in the rear quarter just enough to make me go head on into the dirt filled loader tire that you had to go around at about 35mph. People told me after the rear of the car came off the ground when I hit. something let go in the transmission when I hit, because I backed off the tire, and when I put it in gear, it barely moved, so I did the last half a lap on the rev limiter, and ended up 3rd.
on the way back to the pits, still on the rev limiter the engine locked up.
I guess I am done racing for the year.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Famous last words: I think I got everything to finish the projects I have to do today.

Projects in order of priority: Mustang oil change, steering box rebuild, 1-ton steering install if I get that far. Mixed in there somewhere I will start drinking beer unless I decide to go to F1 Boston instead.

Also got the cash money in hand for the tires I should be picking up tomorrow.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

drilled the durango box only to realize that my large tap wrench handle won't fit in the space where I need it and my small handle is too small. off to the store I guess.

Almost seems like there isn't enough metal to thread the hydro assist hose into where the lower hold was drilled :dunno: Guess I'll just tap it and hope for the best. Worst comes to worst I'll get/rebuild another box or weld up the hole I drilled.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

fawk. Looks like I'm making up a couple patches for the durango box tomorrow and welding them on. One plug went in fine but felt a bit snug. One seemed to start threading in but again felt snug... went to tighten it down and apparently it was cross threaded and the outermost threads ripped right out.

Oh well, cleaning the metal shavings out tomorrow and welding it up. Hope the holes I drilled won't cause any adverse fluid/flow issues. Learning lesson. If I have to get/rebuild another box at least now I know exactly what I'm doing and will be able to do it in no time at all.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Your troubles make me even happier I'm doing that.

:D

Yup, I agree 100% now.

I gave it my best half-assed try and failed. Next time I will let someone else (PSC) do it for me. I probably wouldn't have even attempted this except that I only spent like $20 on the parts/tools to do it and figured I would rather give it a try for myself first.

If worst comes to worst and I fawk up the entire case and have to get a 2nd durango box from the JY I'm out another $60 but I'm hoping to avoid that. Going to patch the box (with pre and post heat) and hope that my welds hold.

Oh and I got the input shaft re-assembled with the replacement o-rings I bought. If I just skipped drilling/tapping the box (like I considered doing) I would have it installed in the Jeep right now and may even have the 1-ton steering partially installed.

I think I'm placing an order for a T&T trackbar system and axle-end OTK trackbar bracket on Monday.

Try PMing them. I don't remember if they did

I deleted that post shortly after making it, guess you saw it in the few moments it was up. I did a few more searches (this time on google) and found a recent thread where they said they do discounts only via the phone for red letter members.

Calling on Monday.
