Re: The NAC Lots-O-Post Thread
Ya, I am too. My bro came up last weekend with a cold, and then my dad got it. Yesterday my throat started hurting, and I woke up with a nice sore throat today. Blows since I was supposed to go to Conn tomorrow for a friends grad party all weekend.
And wow, Jeep Forum is fully of whiny little know-it-all b*tches. I was searching for info on the stock belly pan bolts, and came across this thread about replacing the factory nutserts which tend to spin (or in my dad's old frames case, rust off completely still attached to the bolts). So rather than pay the $7.50 per 1/2" nutsert, 6 total, someone was like, "hey, you can get nutserts on McMaster, much cheaper." I was figuring the same thing, and even started looking there, until I came across this series of posts. Apparently, this guy who did the write up got extremely butt hurt when someone suggested using anything but OEM, and thinks kitties will be murdered and your Jeep will burst into flames withing seconds if you use something else. My thoughts are this guys an idiot, what do you think?
I think I'm getting sick.
XXXX.

Initial comment said:I just picked them up from Fastenal this past weekend (had to order). At $0.80 each I thought it was a steal - I would return to the dealer if you can.
JF write up guy said:I'd be surprised if what you bought is the same as the OEM nutserts. Can you post up a pic of them?
Other JF guy said:Nutserts are nutserts - just the same as any other specified fastener. They are nothing unique to Jeep. They installed easily for my and are torqued to 100ftlbs and waiting to be tacked just to make sure.
JF write up guy said:You keep believing that. Those used in the frame will fail miserably.
You also keep believing that they aren't unique to Jeep. I've been in contact with the manufacturer of them and they are indeed unique to Jeep and an engineered product for a specific application.
I posted what they should look like and if they don't look like that, you shouldn't install them in the frame to hold up your transmission, provide lateral support, and brace the frame.
Please post up a pic of your tack welds, that will be interesting.
