MIG welding is friggin cake, didn't take me long to be able to lay a decent bead.

I'm still not awesome at it, but most of my crappy welds come from lack of patience.

Don't let anyone tell you it's hard to pick up.

I'm surprising myself with welding, I'm doing better than I thought I would. Gravity likes to mess with me, that's the biggest difficulty I've had

MIG took me a little longer to get used to than fluxcore did, I think it's because of the bigger shield on the gun than fluxcore, it's harder to see the bead. Fluxcore took me very little time to become somewhat proficient. To be honest I'll probably use fluxcore for most stuff and MIG only where things need to be awesomely beautiful or I can't get a wire wheel on it to remove the slag, because I'm better with fluxcore, it doesn't require me to have a tank of gas on hand, and it penetrates better with the same power from the welder. I have zero chance of getting my welder to do passable MIG on 1/4" but I've done good fluxcore welds on 1/4" with no problems, and they have held up to me beating the living shit out of my jeep.

my gf's stepdad apparently has one that he spent over 1k on and barely used and said he would give me a good deal on it if i was interested. think he said it was a stick

Yup, I hated overhead welding at first. Finally starting to get good at.

Welds on my hitch and bumper mounts came out mint (overhead).

What thickness DOM do you guys use for a panhard bar? .120 wall or .250 wall?

I'm using 1.5 x .250 wall.

Not sure what everyone else uses.

Im trying to figure out where im going to get a short peace of .250 wall I can get .120 wall easily but i feel like thats too think... I could use square tube but that will look like ass... maybe HEX! yes i will use hex!

P.S. Not to rain on your parade, but I got a job offer from PTC after I got home from my interview with them. I think it was because I told them I already had an offer from Raytheon that I was strongly considering taking.

awesome! I hate it when that happens actually, I always second guess myself and wonder if I should have asked for more.

I just called both the dumbasses in that radius arm thread dumbasses and used engineering to do it, can't wait to see what happens next...

Yeah pretty much the local DOM supplier wants something like $9 a ft for 1.75" .120 wall..... im scared to see how much for .250 wall My steel guy doesnt deal with DOM unfortunatly
