Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

FTFY

At least on-line tests at home you can drink a brew while taking the test. That's a bit harder to pull off in a classroom. (Though not impossible)

yeah, im not as psyched for the superbowl as i would of been if the pats were in obvs.

but i did have a brew while taking the test, done with it now so off to watch this game i suppose

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

F*ck the superbowl, I don't care about that crap.

I have come to the conclusion that now that I have a lot of free time this semester, I don't know what to do with it, therefore I end up doing nothing.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I don't care about the game, but this is the one tv event that I'll pay attention to the commercials. There have been a few funny ones so far.

Walk around and go people watching. It's fun. I'd say go for hikes or something outdoorsy but Boston doesn't have much of that.

Or job hunting

or excercise

gotta keep busy

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Food only man.
pizza isn't food according to her?!?!?!?!

brain: exploded

I was just thinking how its funny that my green Jeep drives, and I have thoughts about replacing the body, and Anthony's doesn't have a body/ it rusted away, and he won't replace his.

I was looking on copart, I found a '98 classic, same color as Rob's (I really like that color), small front end damage. I want it.
buy replacement shell or jeep or whatever, stuff it somewhere (my yard is available if needed), wheel the shit out of your jeep till it folds in half and swap everything over. Seriously.

Im just looking for an excuse to use the 2000# paperwieght thats been im my container for a couple of years now. It does nothing but take up space, I gotta actually USE it one of these days. Im almost tempted to sell it sometimes.
if you ever want to sell it, I think it will fit in my basement if I pull it apart enough.

I know I havent been on here in 2 months it says. Glad to see this thread is still alive & well as ever. I cant wait to be able to wheel or even be able to work on my junk when some of this snow goes away.
yeah... snow needs to go to hell. It was BEAUTIFUL out today though.

:shocked::shocked::shocked:

Today, I came one step closer to being a rookie machinist. If all goes well, I'll have a ready to weld 14b by the end of the week....

Anyone got any suggestions on how to remove the inner pinion bearing that will take less tools than the above setup?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

shop press and some specially shaped blocks?

Otherwise I'd rip the bearing race off, then cut 99% of the way through the cone on opposite sides and use a chisel to split it. If you get unlucky and the number is across one of the cuts, hold the pieces up to each other and read it off, this is why you use a screwdriver to split it instead of just cutting all the way through.

Every once and a while I do go walking around and everything. Boston is a complete mess right now with all the snow though.

Job hunting is something I should do, but when I get back to my apartment, I become a lazy bumb and don't want to do anything.

I think you kind of missed what I was talking about. Anthony understood.

I use that style but in a press instead of that goofy threaded puller thingy. They work good but don't expect to salvage the bearing.

I bet, but at the same time it's a great season to shoot B&W portraits in the commons.

Agreed, I hated job hunting.

I did, but I ignored it.

edit: I just realized that I probably don't even need to pull the old pinion bearings off because I'm putting all new gears and bearings in. And I have a 2 jaw puller I can use to get the old carrier bearings off (because I'm reusing the old carriers)

Although, I will need setup bearings. Keith, did that tool leave the bearings totally junked or were they good enough to reuse as setup bearings?

I put a hi lift pipe handle on the breaker bar and ended up putting a nice bow in it. It was scary-tight. I put my face shield on just in case.

Depends on how much you pay attention. I used some as set up bearings but the first couple while I was mad and trying to figure out how to use it were gross.:anon:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Ha, well, I don't usually lose patience with stuff like this. I should be alright.

ZOMG Anthony's vice came in handy!!!!

You need cool benchtop axlestands now too. IIRC, Bob at Baystate used some jackstands with u-bolts welded to them to "craddle" the axle. I thought that was a slick idea.

Whoda thunk a tool was useful!

That is a neat idea... But I don't need to put my axle on my work bench. And I'll not be scratching the crap out of my Lista bench.

Okay, have fun gearing it on the floor!!!! :D Just toss a piece of plywood over your silly bench if youre worried about it. Its a "work" bench, dont be afraid to do some work on it. ;) Speaking of work benchs, this is the first time in like 1.5 yrs that theres NO axles on mine :dunno:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Maybe. I've already got mini jackstands that I use to hold up the axle on the dollies. That's a long way away and really the least of my worries right now.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Thats like that next thing up on my "list". I'll get the axles pretty much done now (since its about the only thing I could do during winter) so theyre ready to go under the jeep come spring.
