THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I never saw them smoking.

That was a brand new tranny mount as of 5 days before that trip.
Sam or Adam? I'm pretty sure one of those guys saw it as well.
Food only man. Plus, that would be a far run with hot knuckles to reach my welder.
I just ran down the stairs with the cookie sheet it was one and moved it with my welding gloves.
A grill would work well too though.

Bill wanna teach me what I should use to mill the 14b? My plan - a 1/2" 4 fluted bit, like 300-something RPMs, slowly crank the deck back and forth and trim down a little off the housing at a time. Coolant? Anything I should do? I've got a 14b stand coming along to be able to secure the housing to the deck hopefully pretty securely. The stand will allow my to hold the axle completely upside down to shave the bottom AND hold tha axle with the diff cover mating surface up to be able to re-deck the cover surface area after welding.
You've pretty much got it. 300rpm might be a bit slow, but slower is generally better than faster. 450-550rpm might work a little better. You've got it, take a couple ten thousandths off a pass, raise the table, take another couple ten thousandths off, raise the table, etc.

You'll probably want to use a little coolant. The stuff we've got is a water-based stuff that works pretty well and a cheap.

Honestly, it seems like more work than it is worth. If I was doing it I don't think I'd use anything other than an angle grinder and a square. Re-surfacing the cover area might be a good plan, but if you are careful it shouldn't be anything a flap wheel can't solve.

It looks like 325rpm is gunna be my max speed possible (the mill is still stuck in only low range and the next highest speed would be like 660rpms anyways). Im gunna go slow and steady.

Ive got some drilling/cutting oil, I'll go to WT Tool and get some whatever cheap water-based stuf they have then.

I woulda done that, and kinda planned to from the start, but my current cut was like a little short and Im left with not much materail to work with. Its kinda past the point of being able to use a grinder. Theres also a small step thats on the bottom to let the bottom piece sit in flush and cover the front edge of it. Same goes for the cover surface, its gunna almost be perfect, but Id rather mill it flat and I still gotta locate/drill/tap new cover bolt holes too.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Really?
Darn, so 3 cars off the road on the way home. Man it is February you think people would know to slow down when the roads are wet.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Mark, with htat 4-1 you need poly trans n motor mounts, or atleast some sort of diff trans mount, wat to much tourque for that stock mount

just took a power nop now off to pick uo tools soda cans and dunkin donuts bags

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Did I miss something? Why remove the pinion now?

We had a semi-productive day at Rob's. Good time.
Curiosity, really. I should still be able to do just fine when I mock it up for the suspension with regard to pinion angle. The front surface of the pinion's housing is machined, so I think it's a safe bet to assume that it's perfectly perpendicular to the pinion.
IIRC he couldnt find the BOM and had to pull the pinion to figure out what he had to work with to be able to correctly order parts.
yep.

I got that, I just thought he was going to wait to order stuff so he could get stuff he really needed now. :dunno:
I am waiting to order, but I still want to know what it is that I've got. I had a couple hours to work on it today and it seemed like that was the best way to spend my time without having the consumables to fabricate.

Just saw The Kings Speech with Jenn. It was her idea but I really enjoyed it too.

Eating oreos and milk right now

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I was just thinking how its funny that my green Jeep drives, and I have thoughts about replacing the body, and Anthony's doesn't have a body/ it rusted away, and he won't replace his.

I was looking on copart, I found a '98 classic, same color as Rob's (I really like that color), small front end damage. I want it.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Your nuts brah

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

My Jeep also leaks from somewhere. After a good rain, I will open the doors to see water in both driver and passenger front wells. I got into my Jeep today, and the driver seat was wet.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I ate about 2/3 of a row tonight... woops

How was the chocolate milk/oreo combo? I've never done that before.

I deal with it everyday, what's the big deal? Cool thing about wetness, it dries.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Ross, people have been doing 14-bolt shaves for decades without a mill. There's actually a legit article in 4-Wheeler mag (I think) that shows someone doing it with a sawzall.

Use a grinder till your plate fits, let the welder take care of the rest so it doesn't leak. It ain't rocket science.
