I have a couple pickled habenero peppers in my fridge. Locally grown and I put them in the jar... Should I use one of those or get a fresh one?

Before I go - the 'grill seasoning blend' is that like montreal steak seasoning or the like?

Yeah, exactly.

The heat comes mostly from the jalapenos. The chili powder & black pepper augment it, but mostly it's the peppers. So if you want spicy, I'd certainly try subbing them out for the habaneros. Not sure on pickled vs. fresh though.

I start with a little less than 3 tablespoons on the chili powder btw, add a conservative amount of everything else, then just taste-test once it's been simmering for a while. You just gotta keep adding stuff little by little until it 'pops'.

My camera rebuild project I posted about yesterday isn't going so well.

Even the tiniest pairs of tweezers and pliers I have feel like clumsy oaf fingers trying to manipulate this little c-clip.

As a backup plan I ordered some #0 machine screws and nuts to make a new "bolt-on" shaft if it comes down to it.

edit: ^^^ ordered from McMaster at 3:31 PM, shipped at 3:54 PM, in the snow. They'll be in our early UPS delivery to my work tomorrow. I love that place. :D

how big is it? I've found c-clips and e-clips that small are easiest to handle by moistening a fingertip, picking it up, holding between two fingertips, then grabbing with a pair of fairly pointy needlenose pliers while it is still between your fingers. Once you've got it in the pliers, just get it placed with them, don't try and push it on. Do the pushing by using a tiny flat blade screwdriver as a sort of chisel/poking tool.

Removing them is easiest by using either a really small flat blade screwdriver or (if it is REALLY tiny) the point of a razor blade to work them off the shaft. Works on e-clips, c-clips are just hell.

Sweet, thanks.

I can eat entire jalapeno peppers no problem, but habeneros are not to be scoffed at. I know that stewing a pepper effectively makes everything a little spicier because the flavor gets out of the pepper and into everything else that it's in. That's the whole piont behind slow cooking. I'll just use one of (maybe only half of one) my pickeled habeneros in addition to the jalepenos...

I might actually have to write down how much of what I put in so I don't overload it with one thing.

What was the consistency of yours? I like my chili a little thicker, so I was thinking of using half tomato paste, half sauce... hard to say right now but I'll be buying both (they're only a few bucks and whatever I don't use on this will get used on something else)

I might add another form of meat in. Just because meat is yummy.

I'll check in here again before I start. This is obviously not going to be tonights dinner.

The shaft it goes on is 0.0575" major diameter, and smaller at the groove where the clip goes. It's very flimsy and I got it seated once, tried to rock it back & fort and persuade it with a little screwdriver, and it started flexing in half.

This is the repair with the machine screws I'll probably end up doing if I can't get this clip to seat:

Going by the proportions I posted, it's pretty thick. You gotta let it sit for a while before you can really tell because it's a strange mix when you first add everything.

I usually add ~1/3rd bottle of dark beer to the mix to thin it slightly so you'll probably like it as-is. If it's too thin you can leave the lid off the cooker for a while to boil some of the water out.

Well, it's a moot point now...almost had it seated, and it sprung off and went God knows where. :laugh:

I'll half-assed look for it, but I think I'll probably just end up doing the machine screw fix at work tomorrow, under one of the big magnifying glass lamps we have.

I would install that clip by using one tiny flat blade screwdriver perpendicular to the shaft, pressing end first into the notch the clip rides in, while using another tiny flat blade screwdriver almost parallel to the shaft to pop the clip on. It's a royal pain in the ass.

Reading up on dana 44 stuff... flat top knuckles, high steer, spindles, all this shit is making my brain explode. I'll figure it out if I read it enough times.

Good to know. I just remembered a guy in my refrigeration class has a 14b and GM44 out of a Suburban 2500. I think I'm going to see what he wants for the 14b alone.

I think I stared at it so intently that I accidentally determined its momentum so precisely, that it could be anywhere in the universe by now. :laugh:

I was trying something to that effect, but it started rotating when I was wiggling it on, and that's what probably sprung it.

This is what I get for buying the $18 "button repair kit" instead of the $35 "shutter release assembly". :(

I do this all the time, to the great amusement of everyone watching. It tends to worry my passengers a bit though...

Chris - yeah, been there before. It's always the part you can't replace easily that flies off into outer space, too.

Nevermind, just broke the tab off the button housing. It's about 0.5 mm^2.

Guess I'll have to superglue the assembly back in place...

edit: fail, button came unglued from the shaft again. Machine screw this, I'll fix it at work tomorrow.
