THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm not sure if it's really an official auction with starting and ending dates. The company owners (from what I can tell from the email I got) are selling their equipment off basically en masse to my friend's company. He emailed me to see if I or anyone I knew wanted a piece of the pie.

EDIT: Mark, there aren't really any listed prices, it's best offer. I asked my friend what he thought a reasonable offer for one of the maxstar 200s (there are 4 of them) would be, once I get an answer on that we can probably figure out what a decent offer on the syncrowave 250 would be. The hose reels - no idea, will ask.

i fabricate a nasty plate of nachos WITH MY BARE HANDS

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I fabricated a modern composite material based uniframed sandwich today from bagels, mini pretzels, fluff, and peanut butter. The mini pretzels did a great job of keeping stuff from leaking out the holes in the bagel.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

holy list of stuff. how good are the prices? that will determine whether or not i'm interested.

I'd like a 115V TIG, maybe a band saw, and the Dake cold cut saw

Just for Mark, are there any vises being liquidated?

And just for Ross, .!. :D .!.

Colin, I see your point, and parts are sweet, but a good tool is forever.

dunno, he said "fair offers" so not rock bottom prices, but decent. Probably a bit below market value.

I don't really feel the need to buy any of those tools.

I have enough to buy in parts for the next few months.
likewise, except for the stuff I listed. I could really use a stronger welder that won't scream when I weld 1/4" with it, and has a better duty cycle... and I'd absolutely love it to be a TIG. Just need to figure out if I can afford it (I can't.)

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

What's the obsession with TIG's besides nice looking welds?

I'm a welding noob so I'm probably overlooking something, but I haven't been stopped from doing anything yet with my welder except my wheels.

More control on thin stuff, the ability to weld stainless and have it stay stainless. Most can weld aluminum, too.

Pretty welds are only a biproduct of the above capabilities. It also has to do with the fact that there's no slag. Welding with TIG is sorta similar to oxy-ace welding in that there's no slag, you have to do the feeding for yourself, and it can weld many types of metal.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I welded an exhaust patch on my CTD no problem (sheetmetal thin patch)

How often are you welding stainless or aluminum?

I guess it opens doors to use other materials though. My welder can take a spool gun though...can't you weld aluminum with that?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

You welded it, yes, but your weld isn't stainless, even if what is right next to it is stainless.

Not often, but it's nice to be able to when you have to.

I'd like to be able to do my exhaust system by myself...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I was referring to the thin part. I didn't have a problem.

Agreed.

Use exhaust clamps, problem solved :D I'm pretty sure Bill just welded up his exhaust on his. It's not like ours are driving through salt everyday.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

That's good that you didn't have a problem with the thin part, but I'm sure it warped some. For something like that it's not super critical. The biggest benefit for welding stainless with TIG vs MIG is that SS mig wire is so friggin expensive. But on the other hand, one roll of SS mig wire is cheaper than a TIG setup. And for only a few uses SS wire might be the way to go.

Clamps are yucky like a baby's diaper.
